CarGurus Analysis: 2017 INFINITI Q50
Summary
With 581 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,014, 28.4% of 2017 INFINITI Q50 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 INFINITI Q50 4.75 / 5 stars.
47.5% of 2017 INFINITI Q50 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 INFINITI Q50 stands out as a midsize premium sedan that leans hard into a mix of power, equipment, and value. It was part of a long-running first generation that changed relatively little over time, and that consistency is part of its appeal: the Q50 offers a familiar luxury-sedan formula with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and a reputation for generous standard equipment. Owners also tend to praise its comfort, power, and upscale feel, which helps it punch above its price point.
For 2017, the Q50’s engine lineup had already moved beyond the original 3.7-liter V6. The available twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 delivered 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, while the higher-output version made 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque in Red Sport 400 form. That gives the 2017 model a clear performance advantage for buyers who want a luxury sedan that feels genuinely quick. It also benefits from the Q50’s long list of equipment, which helped make it competitive with more expensive rivals.
There are trade-offs, though. The Q50’s fuel economy was never a strong point, and the model range was limited compared with many competitors. Reliability is generally considered solid, but warped brakes are a common issue, and 3.0t models have been known to suffer from turbo failures. Even so, for shoppers who value strong engines, a well-equipped cabin, and a premium driving experience without a premium badge price, the 2017 INFINITI Q50 remains distinctive.

Same class as the bmw 5 series, while might not hug the road as well, it does everything else better, plus way more reliable, at a price far below the BMW.

We really liked this car. We have been driving a q40 and was driving the qx50 as an update. I found it had all the features I would be looking for. I’m still considering purchasing this car or a simulator model.

Excellent car to have luxury and sport. Very fun to drive and excellent reliability. Similar to a BMW or Audi except you don’t have to pay for the logo.

How much does the 2017 INFINITI Q50 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,082 |
| Year-Round Low | $13,960 |
| Year-Round High | $15,330 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,206 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.39% |
Prices have softened 7.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 570 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 INFINITI Q50 a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, power, and luxury feel, and many like the way it delivers a premium driving experience with generous features. It also fits well if you want a midsize premium sedan that balances performance and value. With 26.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 INFINITI Q50 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as dependable and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence, with praise centered on comfort and the sense that it can be counted on as a daily driver. That said, used buyers should still budget for age-related wear and verify maintenance carefully, since long-term ownership risk rises when prior care is unclear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 INFINITI Q50?
At 46.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
Start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with collision records. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on braking condition and overall mechanical health. Focus on signs of uneven wear, repair quality, and whether the car has been maintained consistently.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 INFINITI Q50?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 570 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.39% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 46.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,960, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 INFINITI Q50's resale value?
The current average of $14,082 sits slightly below last year's $15,206.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For future resale, the softer trend means your upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and maintenance history than on broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples should still hold appeal because shoppers continue to value the Q50's mix of performance and equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 INFINITI Q50 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $13,619, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,082 average.
- It feels more like a legitimate luxury sports sedan.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and inventory. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better value-oriented alternative, especially if you find a well-kept example with the right equipment.
