Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,159, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,947 average.
• It emphasizes core comfort and value over flash.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $11,872, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $9,947 average.
• It adds more tech, safety, and powertrain variety.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the right pick if you want a well-liked, value-focused Sonata at a lower used price than the newer model year. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2016 is the better budget path; if you want more features and are willing to pay more, the 2018 is the stronger upgrade path.
