How much does the 2017 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Is the 2017 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.73/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

You’re looking at a car that owners consistently praise for comfort, fuel efficiency, and value for money. The feedback also highlights comfortable seating and advanced technology, which fits the car’s role as a practical compact sedan with a more upscale feel than its price suggests.

With its redesign, the Elantra is aimed at shoppers who want everyday usability, strong tech, and a more substantial driving experience than many small cars deliver. The market also shows 29.1% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with comfort, fuel efficiency, and value showing up again and again as strengths. That kind of consistency matters when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the car has been meeting expectations over time rather than just impressing on paper.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Elantra’s value-oriented character and its ability to deliver a lot of equipment without feeling cheap. That combination supports the idea of a car that should be easy to live with, especially if you want a straightforward commuter.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Hyundai Elantra?

At 46.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition details that matter in daily use: interior wear, electronics, and how well the car drives and brakes.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE trim covers the basics with power windows and locks, a 6-speaker stereo, and USB/auxiliary inputs, while the Limited adds Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity with voice control, keyless entry, push-button start, and steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. If you want the best value, the Limited is the stronger pick because it adds the convenience features that make the car feel more complete.
• Powertrain: The Elantra uses a 2.0-liter engine with drive modes for Normal, Sport, and Eco, and the Eco trim later in the year adds a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline 4-cylinder. The standard setup is tuned for efficiency and everyday use, while the Eco trim is aimed at buyers who want better fuel economy.
• Safety package: Available safety tech includes electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, tire pressure monitoring, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a backup camera with rear cross-path detection. Some of these features are available rather than standard, so check carefully before you buy.
• Infotainment: Every Elantra comes with USB/auxiliary audio inputs and SiriusXM satellite radio, while higher trims add navigation with turn-by-turn instructions in the gauge cluster display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also part of the tech story, and the voice-control system is designed to handle complex commands.
• Fuel efficiency: The Elantra is rated at 29 mpg city, 38 highway, and 33 combined, while the Limited returns 28 mpg city and 37 highway. The SE with the manual is rated at 26/36.

Which 2017 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Elantra experience with power windows and locks, a 6-speaker stereo, and USB/auxiliary inputs. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it leaves out some of the convenience features that make the car feel more polished.
• Limited: This is the better-value trim if you want the Elantra to feel more upscale day to day. It adds Bluetooth hands-free calling with voice control, keyless entry, push-button start, and steering-wheel-mounted controls, and it can be equipped with navigation and other upgrades through packages.

Safety equipment is a major part of the Elantra’s appeal, and Hyundai says the car is expected to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and a five-star NHTSA crash-test rating.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Hyundai Elantra?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop around but still some room to find a strong deal.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,665 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 46.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,302, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $9,302 sits slightly below last year's $10,227.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you’re thinking about future resale. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car in good condition, you’ll be better positioned to recover value later.

The Elantra’s appeal to value-focused shoppers should help support demand, especially because owners rate it highly for comfort, efficiency, and value. Cars that deliver that kind of broad satisfaction tend to stay relevant in the used market longer.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra is expected to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and a five-star NHTSA crash-test rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai’s safety list includes electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a backup camera with rear cross-path detection.

That said, some of the more advanced safety features are not universal across the lineup, so you should verify exactly what’s installed on the car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 46.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned look, strong tech, and a clear emphasis on value.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,278, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $9,302 average.
• It remains roomy, efficient, simple, and safe.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Elantra, the 2017 is the stronger choice because it adds the redesign, more technology, and a more upscale feel. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the smarter budget play, especially if you find one in clean condition.
