FAQs
As Hyundai’s entrant in the full-size sedan class, the Azera may not be as well-known as competitors like the Chevrolet Impala or Toyota Avalon, but Hyundai hopes its expressive exterior styling and long list of features will attract prospective buyers. The 2017 Azera follows in the footsteps of the 2016 model, with no major changes—the only upgrades of note are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration and 3 new exterior colors: Hyper White, Ion Silver, and Nocturne Black. 2017 pricing begins at $34,100 for the base trim and climbs to $39,300 for the Limited.
The Azera was praised for its sharp appearance when it launched back in 2012. Five years later, it still looks fresh as a daisy—its flowing lines, rear-fender sculpting, and short rear end give the Azera a distinct presence on the road. The base Azera comes with 18-inch wheels, while the Limited trim boasts a set of 19-inchers.
The Azera’s interior doesn’t have quite as much flair as its exterior, but Hyundai got the fundamentals right with a simply designed dash, logical control layout, and high-quality materials. Legroom is excellent for both rows, and while headroom is excellent for those up front, passengers in back will have a lot less space due to the shape of the roof. Cargo space is toward the top of the class at 16.3 cubic feet. The Azera offers an extensive list of standard equipment, which includes leather upholstery, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a 14-speaker audio system. The Limited trim level adds a panoramic sunroof and sunshades for the side and rear windows.
Power for the Azera comes from a 3.3-liter V6 engine paired with a 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission for an output of 293 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. Performance is about average for the class, with the Azera reaching 60 mph in just over 6 seconds. Fuel-economy figures stand at 20 mpg city, 28 highway, and 23 combined for the base trim and 19, 28, and 22 for the Limited.
Hyundai’s list of safety equipment for the Azera is quite extensive—both trims receive antilock brakes (ABS), blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, a full set of airbags, traction and stability control, and Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics system. The Limited trim adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, high-intensity-discharge (HID) headlights, rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control with stop/start technology. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2016 Azera its highest rating of Good on all crash tests.
