How much does the 2017 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 7.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,556 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, spaciousness, and tech features, and many also like the strong AWD capability and comfortable ride. The Pilot’s family-hauling mission comes through clearly in its roomy, practical setup, even if it can feel less polished than some rivals. With 34.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback consistently points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners saying they feel confident counting on it for daily family duty. Honda’s reputation for dependability also supports the Pilot’s long-term ownership case, and the expert review notes that its fuel economy lands where expected, which helps with planning and ownership predictability. The main used-buyer risk is that some listings may have seen harder family use, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage family hauler. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, suspension, brakes, and any evidence of past body repairs. If the listing has incomplete service records or visible cosmetic issues, treat that as a reason to dig deeper before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base trim and lacks the HondaLink infotainment system and the Honda Sensing package, while higher trims add more convenience and equipment. The Elite stands out with standard AWD and the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: Every 2017 Pilot uses a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, with a 9-speed automatic on Touring and Elite trims and a 6-speed automatic on lower trims. AWD is optional on most trims and standard on the Elite.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is available on every trim except the LX and includes driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not available unless you move up to the Elite.
• Infotainment: The HondaLink system includes an 8-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HondaLink services, post-collision HondaLink Assist, SiriusXM, Pandora, text-messaging support, USB ports, and a multi-view reversing camera.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says fuel economy meets expectations, and it cites 22 mpg in combined driving for an AWD Pilot with the 9-speed automatic.

Which 2017 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L with leather, Touring, and Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it leaves out HondaLink and the Honda Sensing package, so it makes the most sense only if you’re chasing the lowest price.
• EX: This is the first trim that unlocks Honda Sensing, making it the best-value choice if safety tech matters to you.
• EX-L with leather: This trim adds more comfort and convenience, and it’s a sensible step up if you want a more family-friendly cabin without jumping to the pricier models.
• Touring: This trim adds the 9-speed automatic, big 20-inch wheels, and more premium equipment, so it suits you if you want a richer feature set.
• Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard AWD and the most complete safety and comfort content, making it the right pick if you want the top-spec Pilot.

Honda Sensing is available on every trim except the LX, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,556 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,590, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $16,590 sits slightly below last year's $17,865.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. The Pilot’s strong owner satisfaction and practical family appeal should help support demand, especially for clean, well-maintained examples. If you buy carefully now, you may have a better chance of preserving value later by choosing a desirable trim and keeping service records complete.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 5-star crash-test rating from the federal government and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; with Honda Sensing, that rating improves to a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance and collision-avoidance suite on every trim except the LX, and it helps the Pilot reach its best safety rating. The catch is that blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not available unless you move up to the Elite. The review also notes that Honda Sensing can struggle in some real-world road and traffic conditions, so you should not assume every system will feel seamless in daily use.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its strong family-hauling practicality, roomy cabin, and useful tech features.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $14,644, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $16,590 average.
• It blends SUV styling with a minivan chassis, giving it a familiar, practical family-hauler character.

The bottom line: If you want the better-supported shopping pool and a strong mix of owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the safer default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Pilot’s core family-friendly strengths.

How does the 2017 Honda Pilot compare to the 2017 Toyota Highlander?

Our experts score the 2017 Honda Pilot 7.2/10 and the 2017 Toyota Highlander 7.2/10. The Pilot gives you more power, more listings to choose from, and a lower average used price. The Highlander counters with slightly better fuel economy in city driving and a somewhat higher accident-free share. If you want the stronger value proposition and broader inventory, the Pilot is the easier buy; if you want a pricier but slightly cleaner market, the Highlander is worth a look.
