CarGurus Analysis: 2017 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 78 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,427, 12.8% of 2017 GMC Acadia listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 GMC Acadia 4.73 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
78.2% of 2017 GMC Acadia listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 GMC Acadia stands out as a major redesign that makes the SUV smaller and lighter than before. It moves to GM’s C1 platform, which also underpins the Cadillac XT5, and that change brings a shorter, narrower profile with a shorter wheelbase. The redesign also introduces a brand new 4-cylinder engine and contributes to an impressive 700-plus-pound weight loss, giving the Acadia a more modern feel in a crowded midsize crossover segment.
At the same time, the 2017 Acadia is not without tradeoffs. The update brings more power for the V6 and a new “All-Terrain” package, but towing and interior capacity take some major hits. Even so, the combination of a lighter body, fresh engine choice, and available off-road-oriented packaging makes this Acadia appealing to buyers who want a more contemporary take on the family SUV formula.

This vehicle has excellent features things like, wireless phone charger, rear seat warmers and many other safety features. Great family vehicle and overall good value for median asking price. I would say the only thing missing is a turbo for additional fun but still very good torque and towing capacity. I would compare this to a Ford Explorer sport of like years.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia a good car?
Yes — the 2017 GMC Acadia earns a 4.73/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, spacious interior, and strong feature content. The cabin comfort, cargo space, and versatile seating also come up often, which fits a family-focused SUV that still feels modern after its redesign.
That makes sense if you want a midsize crossover with a more contemporary feel, useful everyday space, and a well-equipped base model. With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience overall, with many shoppers describing it as a vehicle they can count on for family use. The expert notes also emphasize the Acadia’s lighter redesign and improved efficiency, which support a more modern, manageable ownership experience.
The 2.5-liter engine and the V6 both benefit from the weight reduction, and the cabin-focused design suggests this SUV is built for steady daily use rather than hard-duty abuse. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, since the transmission and feature-rich trims can add complexity over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SL already brings a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition, heated mirrors, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, while higher trims add features like LED running lights, satellite radio, leather, a Bose stereo, heated second-row seats, and more luxury equipment. The base trim is well equipped, but you’ll want to compare it carefully against the SLE and SLT versions if you care about convenience and comfort upgrades.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is rated at 193 hp and 188 lb-ft and returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined in FWD form. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft, with AWD V6 fuel economy at 18 mpg city and 25 highway for a 21 combined rating.
- Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking, while the Denali’s optional Technology package adds a surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking. Those advanced systems are not available on lower trims.
- Infotainment: The Acadia uses a 7-inch touchscreen on the base trim and an 8-inch screen on the Denali, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Denali also adds a virtual gauge display, and the optional Technology package brings a surround-view camera system.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter FWD model returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined, while the AWD V6 returns 18 mpg city and 25 highway for 21 combined.
Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.
Here's the short version:
- SL: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price without giving up the essentials. You still get the 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, FWD, 17-inch alloys, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, a 7-inch touchscreen, CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- SLE1: This trim adds LED running lights and satellite radio, and it’s the first step up if you want a little more polish than the SL. It’s a sensible middle ground if you want more equipment without jumping too far in price.
- SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the V6, 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, a power liftgate, fog lights, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. If you want a well-rounded Acadia with stronger power and family-friendly convenience, this is the one to target.
- SLT1: This trim adds leather, an upgraded driver display, power front seats with lumbar, auto-dimming mirrors, a Bose stereo, and the Driver Alert 1 safety package. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and more driver-assistance tech.
- SLT2: This is the luxury-leaning choice before Denali, with 20-inch wheels, a trailering package, heated second-row seats, and Driver Alert II. It’s the right pick if you want more capability and more advanced safety features.
- Denali: The Denali brings the most premium feel with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, virtual gauge display, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, a unique grille, and a hands-free liftgate. If you want the most upscale Acadia, this is the top choice.
The safety-package trim note is simple: the more advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the upper trims, so lower trims leave some of that tech off the table.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.
- Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,906 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,963, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $12,963 sits slightly below last year's $14,510.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, trim, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.
Well-equipped trims with the right features may hold buyer interest better than stripped examples, especially if they present cleanly and have a strong service history. If the market stays selective, a clean Acadia with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than one with accident history or missing features.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?
The 2017 GMC Acadia earns five-star frontal crash ratings and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. The available Driver Alert 1 package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
The main caveat is that the redesign lost some of the all-around crash-test strength of the previous model year, so you should pay close attention to which safety features are actually fitted on the specific trim you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign cuts weight and adds a new 4-cylinder engine for better efficiency.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $15,270, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $12,963 average.
- V6 power becomes available to more trims.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2017 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for broader V6 availability, the 2018 is the better path for shoppers who prioritize stronger power across more trims.
