CarGurus Analysis: 2017 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 1,888 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,296.00, 32.7% of 2017 GMC Acadia models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 GMC Acadia 4.73 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
67.5% of 2017 Acadia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 GMC Acadia stands out because it was thoroughly redesigned into a smaller, lighter SUV. GMC moved it to the new C1 platform for the 2017 redesign, and that change brought a shorter, narrower profile with a shorter wheelbase. It also arrived with a brand new 4-cylinder engine, and the redesign contributed to an impressive 700-plus-pound weight loss.
That transformation gives the 2017 Acadia a different character from the larger version it replaced, with a more modern footprint aimed at today’s midsize crossover market. It also brought more power for the V6 and a new “All-Terrain” package. The tradeoff is that towing and interior capacity take some major hits, so buyers get a lighter, more contemporary Acadia, but not one that emphasizes maximum utility above all else.

This vehicle has excellent features things like, wireless phone charger, rear seat warmers and many other safety features. Great family vehicle and overall good value for median asking price. I would say the only thing missing is a turbo for additional fun but still very good torque and towing capacity. I would compare this to a Ford Explorer sport of like years.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 GMC Acadia cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,258 |
| Year-Round Low | $13,263.84 |
| Year-Round High | $15,003.87 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,003 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.63% |
Prices have softened 11.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,890 listings available, which suggests you have room to compare prices and condition across the market.
If you find a listing below $13,263.84, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia a good car?
Yes — the 4.73/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.33/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, spacious interior, ample cargo space, and versatile seating arrangements. The Acadia also fits well if you want a family-friendly SUV with useful features and a comfort-first setup.
The redesign makes it smaller and lighter, which helps it feel more nimble, and the available seating and cargo flexibility make it appealing for families and outdoor enthusiasts. With 31.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience overall, with many owners describing it as a vehicle they can count on for family use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Acadia’s improved efficiency and lighter design, which support everyday usability.
The available maintenance perk language is limited, but the model’s well-equipped lower trims and broad feature set help reduce the feeling that you need to move up-market just to get a useful SUV.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle’s condition matches its strong reputation, especially given the mixed history profile in the market.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the vehicle matches the trim level being advertised.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SL trim includes the 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed transmission, front-wheel drive, 17-inch alloys, tri-zone auto climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen, a reversing camera, Intellilink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. It does not include the AWD option, and higher-level safety tech is limited to upper trims.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 193 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque and returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined in FWD form. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque and returns 18 mpg city and 25 highway in AWD form.
- Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full suite is reserved for the Denali with the optional Technology package, which adds a surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking.
- Infotainment: The base trim uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Denali upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a virtual gauge display. Wireless charging is available, and the system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined in FWD form. The AWD V6 returns 18 mpg city and 25 highway for a combined 21 mpg.
Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SL gives you a lot for the money, but it lacks AWD and the more advanced safety tech found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SLE2 is the best value if you want the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote ignition, and second-row captain’s chairs.
- Premium/top trim: The Denali adds the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, virtual gauge display, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, a unique grille, and a hands-free liftgate.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims is positioned as an off-road-focused choice here.
The safety-package progression matters: Driver Alert 1 starts on SLT1, Driver Alert II arrives on SLT2, and the full suite requires the Denali with the optional Technology package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,890 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,263.84, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $13,258 sits slightly below last year's $15,003.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market momentum.
Because the Acadia still draws strong owner satisfaction and offers a useful mix of comfort and family-friendly features, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you maintain the vehicle carefully and keep its history clean, you improve your odds of holding value better than the average listing.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?
It earns five-star frontal crash ratings and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The Acadia includes standard 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. Higher trims add more advanced driver assistance: Driver Alert 1 brings blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors; Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
The main caveat is that the strongest safety tech is not widely available on lower trims, so you may need to shop higher in the range if those features matter to you.
Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a lighter body, improved fuel economy, and a more nimble driving feel.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $15,794, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $13,258 average.
- It adds a more well-rounded package with improved performance for buyers who want more power.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the stronger buy because prices are softer and the model still delivers strong owner satisfaction. If you can spend more and want the next year’s broader package, the 2018 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize a newer-feeling setup over upfront savings.
