Overview

While the Ford Transit van may be best known as a cargo hauler, it also comes in a passenger configuration. Whether you’ve got a big family, run a shuttle service, or need to carry schoolkids or church groups, the Transit Passenger Wagon can be built to suit your needs, and it continues into 2017 without any major changes.
With 2 trim packages, 3 engine choices, 3 roof heights, 3 lengths, 3 rear-axle ratios, and numerous available add-ons, buyers have hundreds of ways to customize a Transit Passenger. The regular-wheelbase Transit comes with a low or medium roof and seating for 8 passengers in 3 rows or 10 passengers in 4 rows. A long-wheelbase Transit is available with a low, medium, or high roof and can seat 12 passengers in 4 rows or 15 passengers in 5 rows. The Extended Transit is available only with a high roof and can seat 15 in 5 rows, with 100.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the last row.
Every Transit Passenger comes standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 3.7-liter V6 engine that makes 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. An option package enables the engine to run on compressed natural gas or propane. It can also be upgraded to a turbocharged EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 with an output of 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque or a 5-cylinder diesel engine good for 185 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. Both gas engines have fuel-economy ratings of 14 mpg city, 19 highway, and 16 combined (though these numbers will vary with vehicle configuration and load). The diesel engine has not been EPA rated.
No matter which engine, height, or passenger count you choose, the Transit Passenger Wagon comes in two trims: XL and XLT. The XL comes with 16-inch steel wheels, fixed or fourth-row flip-open windows, tinted glass, vinyl upholstery, and an AM/FM radio with Aux input. Optional extras include a CD player, navigation, a power driver’s seat, cloth upholstery, lane-keep assist, heavy-duty batteries, cruise control, and rear air conditioning. Other additional features are a tow/haul package, a reverse alarm, running boards (standard or powered), second-row flip-open windows, privacy glass, and a rear-window defogger.
The Transit Passenger XLT trim adds creature comforts like an upgraded exterior with chrome trim, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, and standard front and rear heating and air conditioning. Cloth seats, cruise control, wheel covers, and a CD player are also standard, while leather seats, lane-keep alert, navigation, running boards, and reverse sensors remain optional. The XLT comes with a 60/40 split passenger door that can be upgraded to a sliding door.

I bought this vehicle new after looking for a Mercades diesel van, The van had the 5 cylinder Diesel option, Not many were made for US Europe and the rest of the World Have the Transit Diesel option. On the high way cruises 80MPH 2500 RPM averaging 24 MPG , Unlike the Mercades $ 1000 oil change to keep the factory warranty if you can find a dealer that services the Sprinter van you can go to a Ford dealer in every city and town across the County

We need more SWB vehicles on the market to choose from.. LWB vehicles do not make good vehicles for home use.. I like the V/6 applications and the sliding passenger door for the side entrance..

There are 620 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Ford Transit Passenger a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.6/5, which points to strong overall satisfaction. Reviewers consistently praise its spaciousness and comfort on long trips, along with its practical features and impressive performance. The turbocharged engine and diesel option also come up as positives, especially for highway driving and fuel economy. With 27.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Transit Passenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable for extended use, especially when you value comfort, practicality, and highway-friendly driving. That kind of owner confidence matters if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while and want something you can count on. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so condition and service history should carry real weight.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Transit Passenger?
At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body condition, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past repairs or heavy use. Focus on overall condition and maintenance evidence, especially if you want a van that will stay comfortable and dependable over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Transit Passenger?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly when you find a strong one.
- Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 620 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.54% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,148, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Transit Passenger's resale value?
The current average of $23,901 sits slightly below last year's $25,848.
That downward movement suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can also affect what you recover later if you sell. If prices stay soft, future resale value may be more sensitive to mileage, condition, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should hold up better than average because shoppers tend to pay more for cleaner, better-documented vehicles.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Transit Passenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.54% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Transit Passenger with solid owner satisfaction and a softer price environment, the 2017 is a sensible place to start. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the cleanest history and best condition at the lowest total cost.
