How much does the 2017 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 6.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,118 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Explorer earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and impressive features, and many also like its power and handling, especially with the EcoBoost engine. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a roomy, family-oriented midsize SUV with a more composed driving feel and useful everyday versatility. With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as smooth, spacious, and enjoyable to live with, and many highlight its power and handling as strengths. That said, some owners mention missing features like lane and parking assist, so your long-term ownership experience may depend on how well a specific used example matches your needs and how carefully it was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on body panels, alignment, suspension, and electronics. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since a clean, well-kept example is more likely to deliver the ownership experience you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,118 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,466, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $13,466 sits slightly below last year's $14,400.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy at a more favorable point but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you own one for several years, resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. A well-kept example should hold up better than a neglected one, especially in a market where buyers are price-sensitive.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,733, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $13,466 average.
• Ford refreshed it with updated styling and upgraded available features.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better starting point. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly alternative and may be worth a closer look.
