I bought a 2017 Escape in 2019 with 30,000 miles on it from a lease. I’ve never been a ford fan or even owned one, but I stepped out on a limb and this became the best car I’ve ever owned! Minimal maintenance and repairs and just a great car!! I put 160,000 miles on this car with zero issues. I would definitely buy it again.

I had a 2017 Ford Escape SE with the Sport Appearance package. I loved it so much, Im looking for one just like it. Most impressive was its handling in an accident. Mine was unfortunately totaled, but it did great, deploying the proper air bags, automatically shutting the engine down and putting itself in crash mode, automatically turning the flashers on, and immediately dialing 911 FOR me. I was spun into a ditch and the car stayed upright. Its well balanced and handles well, and the tech features you can get on it are pretty top notch. With the Ford Pass app, you can start your vehicle remotely, lock your doors a mile a way if you need to. I love it. The only short side for me had to deal with the tires on the Sport Appearance package. I felt like they didnt handle wet roads as well as I would have liked, and the thinner tires provided a slightly less smooth ride. I could feel the road a little more with them, but I loved the look of them and it was worth the sacrifice for me.

It is a solid vehicle. A better value than its competitors. I know it does not hold its resale value as well as the Rav 4 or CRV. But I have never purchased a car where selling it after years of use was ever a consideration in buying it. Good horse power. Well featured. Fords second best seller for a reason.

| Year-Round High | $11,148.45 |

Prices have softened 5.08% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,150 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment. If you find a listing below $10,450.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Escape a good car?
Yes — with a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating, the 2017 Ford Escape lands as a strong pick for shoppers who want a compact crossover with broad appeal. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its comfort, handling, and cargo space, and many also like the available features, especially in the Titanium trim. The model-year refresh also focuses on everyday usability and a more user-friendly cabin, which fits well if you want a practical crossover with updated equipment. With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Escape reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find comfortable and dependable in daily use, with strong marks for comfort, handling, and cargo space. The expert evaluation also describes it as a good value with good fuel economy and a competitive mix of technology and safety, which supports the case for trouble-free ownership if you choose a well-kept example. Ford’s warranty coverage includes a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which is a helpful ownership cushion for used buyers.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Escape?
At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Pay extra attention to cabin condition and how the hatch and interior fit together, since owner feedback mentions interior smell and hatch door alignment concerns. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful here because the model’s equipment and trim spread can vary a lot from one listing to another.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, with cloth seats, a manually adjustable driver’s seat, and the simpler Sync system; the SE adds more convenience and comfort equipment, while the Titanium brings leather-trimmed seats, ambient lighting, Sync 3, Sync Connect, and a premium audio system.
- Powertrain: You get a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, plus turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines. The EcoBoost engines are the better choice if you want stronger performance and good fuel efficiency.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, brake assist, and blind-spot-integrated mirrors. Higher trims add more advanced safety tech, including lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning with brake support.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses Sync with AM/FM/CD/MP3 capability and 6 speakers. Sync 3 adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Sync Connect adds remote access features through FordPass.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter EcoBoost in 4-wheel-drive form is rated at 20 mpg city/27 highway/23 combined, and the expert evaluation notes an average of 24.5 mpg during testing.
Which 2017 Ford Escape trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The S is the most basic choice, and it misses out on the richer comfort and tech upgrades found higher up the range. Its simpler infotainment setup is also a drawback if you want a more modern interface.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SE is the best value for most shoppers because it adds a stronger mix of convenience, comfort, and available tech without jumping all the way to the top price point.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the best fit if you want the most complete package, with standard Sync 3, Sync Connect, a 10-speaker Sony audio system, leather-trimmed seats, and ambient lighting.
The Titanium also layers on the most advanced safety and convenience options, making it the trim to target if you want the fullest feature set.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Escape?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,150 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.08% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,450.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Escape's resale value?
The current average of $10,575 sits slightly below last year's $11,140.
That price movement suggests the model has softened enough to help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For a future seller, the key advantage is that the Escape still has broad shopper appeal thanks to its comfort, cargo space, and feature-rich higher trims. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Escape safe?
It was rated the maximum of five stars by NHTSA in all but the rollover test, in which it received a four-star rating. It received top scores from the IIHS with its highest rating of Good in all crash-test categories except for small overlap front, which received an Acceptable rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, multiple airbags, brake assist, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and mirrors with blind-spot integration. Higher trims and options add lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, and bi-xenon HID headlights. The IIHS also gave the LATCH system a Marginal rating, so if you plan to install child seats, that’s worth checking carefully during your inspection.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Escape or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.08% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The mid-cycle refresh adds a facelift, interior improvements, new EcoBoost engines, and upgraded safety and technology.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $9,216, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,575 average.
- It offers agile handling and comfortable seating.
The bottom line: If you want the more updated cabin, stronger tech, and refreshed equipment, the 2017 is the better all-around choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Escape strengths.
