Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Escape stands out as a mid-cycle refresh that aimed to make the crossover more useful and easier to live with. Ford gave it a facelift and interior enhancements that improved functionality and user-friendliness, while also adding two new EcoBoost engines. It also brought a significant improvement to safety features and technology, which helps explain why it remained competitive in a crowded segment.
For buyers, the appeal of the 2017 Ford Escape is its blend of everyday practicality and updated equipment. Owner feedback points to comfort, handling, and cargo space as especially strong points, along with the available features and strong performance. Great value with added features. Comparable to a jeep compass but with a more powerful engine. Nothing seems to be missing for me! It has 2 usb plug ins and 2 cigarette lighters for charging all the things.

I bought a 2017 Escape in 2019 with 30,000 miles on it from a lease. I’ve never been a ford fan or even owned one, but I stepped out on a limb and this became the best car I’ve ever owned! Minimal maintenance and repairs and just a great car!! I put 160,000 miles on this car with zero issues. I would definitely buy it again.

Reviewed a 2017 Ford Escape on Jul 13, 2021
I had a 2017 Ford Escape SE with the Sport Appearance package. I loved it so much, Im looking for one just like it. Most impressive was its handling in an accident. Mine was unfortunately totaled, but it did great, deploying the proper air bags, automatically shutting the engine down and putting itself in crash mode, automatically turning the flashers on, and immediately dialing 911 FOR me. I was spun into a ditch and the car stayed upright. Its well balanced and handles well, and the tech features you can get on it are pretty top notch. With the Ford Pass app, you can start your vehicle remotely, lock your doors a mile a way if you need to. I love it. The only short side for me had to deal with the tires on the Sport Appearance package. I felt like they didnt handle wet roads as well as I would have liked, and the thinner tires provided a slightly less smooth ride. I could feel the road a little more with them, but I loved the look of them and it was worth the sacrifice for me.

How much does the 2017 Ford Escape cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,277 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,277 |
| Year-Round High | $10,974 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,975 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.36% |
Prices have softened 6.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,206 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Ford Escape a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Ford Escape earns a 4.68/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its comfort, handling, and cargo space, and they also call out the available features and strong performance. That lines up with the Escape’s practical crossover mission: it’s built to be easy to live with, useful for everyday driving, and well equipped in higher trims. Market availability is healthy too, with 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2017 Ford Escape reliable?
Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with comfort and everyday usability showing up repeatedly in the praise. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Escape is a good value with a strong mix of technology, safety, and fuel economy, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership. Ford’s coverage includes a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 5 years/60,000 miles of roadside assistance.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that option-heavy examples can become expensive to maintain and repair if prior owners deferred care.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Escape?
At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, alignment, and interior condition. Pay extra attention to signs of past repairs, since accident history can affect both long-term durability and resale value. It’s also smart to confirm that the features you want are actually present, because equipment varies a lot by trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the SE adds more comfort and convenience equipment, and the Titanium brings the most premium features. The base trim is the one most likely to feel light on tech and convenience, so it’s the one to scrutinize most closely if you want a richer feature set.
- Powertrain: You can choose among a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost, or a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged EcoBoost. The EcoBoost engines are described as offering great fuel efficiency and better performance, with the 2.0-liter delivering the strongest output.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, brake assist, roll stability control, and mirrors with blind-spot integration. Higher trims can add features such as blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, and driver alert aid.
- Infotainment: The base system uses Sync with an AM/FM/CD/MP3 setup and 6 speakers. Sync 3 adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Sync Connect adds remote access features through FordPass.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter EcoBoost in 4-wheel-drive form is rated at 20 mpg city/27 highway/23 combined, and the test loop returned 24.5 mpg.
Which 2017 Ford Escape trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics: the 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, cloth seats, a manually adjustable driver’s seat, and the standard safety hardware. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Escape, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more convenience and tech.
- SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a stronger feature mix without jumping all the way to the top. You get the 1.5-liter EcoBoost, dual-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat, fog lamps, and more available tech and convenience options. If you want a balanced used Escape, this is the trim to target first.
- Titanium: This is the most upscale version, with standard Sync 3, Sync Connect, a 10-speaker Sony audio system, leather-trimmed seats, ambient lighting, bi-xenon HID headlights, and a hands-free liftgate. Choose this if you want the most comfort and technology and are willing to pay for it.
Safety equipment is strongest on higher trims, where features like blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping aids, and adaptive cruise control become available.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Escape?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make comparison worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,206 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.36% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,277, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Escape's resale value?
The current average of $10,277 sits slightly below last year's $10,975.
That softer pricing suggests the Escape has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means your best outcome will likely come from choosing a clean, well-equipped example and keeping it in strong condition. Models with desirable features and a clean history should be easier to move than rougher, accident-affected examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Escape safe?
The 2017 Ford Escape earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover, where it earns a four-star rating, and it received Good ratings from the IIHS in all crash-test categories except small overlap front, which was rated Acceptable.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, multiple airbags, brake assist, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and mirrors with blind-spot integration. Higher trims can add bi-xenon HID headlights, lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning with brake support. The main caveat is the IIHS small overlap front result, which trails the Escape’s otherwise strong crash-test performance.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Escape or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.36% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 stands out for its mid-cycle refresh, which improved usability, technology, and safety.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $8,887, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,277 average.
- It offers agile handling and comfortable seating.
The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, more modern Escape, the 2017 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2016 is the better value path, especially if you find a clean example with the features you need.
