CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 122 currently listed for sale near Providence, RI and an average price of $12,454.00, 32.0% of 2017 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Edge 4.43 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
87.7% of 2017 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Edge stands out as a well-sized crossover that sits between the smaller Ford Escape and the larger Explorer and Flex. It offers seating for five passengers, ample cargo room, and storage cubbies galore, making it a practical choice for busy families. Rather than trying to be a rugged off-road vehicle, it is aimed at everyday use, with a manageable size and a family-friendly layout.
Stylistically, the Edge is sleek and attractive, though it is not especially dramatic or eye-catching. That restrained design may appeal to buyers who want a crossover that looks polished without being flashy. The overall impression is of a vehicle that focuses on usefulness, comfort, and space more than on making a bold visual statement.

I never had a problem with my 2017 Edge. At 65000 miles I got a notice from Ford that due to engine problems they needed to replace engine. Brought it in when they got the engine in stock. No charge. Then got a notice about the transmission. Brought it in. No charge. Car now has 95,000 miles. No problems so far except new battery which Aaa replaced for $85. mechanic told me Ford Edge is the best car Ford makes.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Ford Edge prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Ford Edge cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,407 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,272.78 |
| Year-Round High | $13,485.48 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,426 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.59% |
Prices have softened 7.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,877 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,272.78, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Ford Edge earns 4.43/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
You get a crossover that’s aimed squarely at everyday family use, with seating for five, ample cargo room, and a practical layout. Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, comfort, and smooth ride, while also noting the strong performance and well-appointed features. That combination makes it a sensible fit if you want a midsize crossover that prioritizes usefulness over flash.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 29.9% of listings priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle many shoppers found reliable and worth the price, with praise for its dependable feel, comfort, and strong feature content. The expert drive notes also describe a composed, responsive ride that feels easy to live with day to day.
That said, some owners reported engine issues and fuel-economy concerns, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and any signs of uneven wear or repair quality. Because this model is often bought as a family hauler, you’ll want to focus on how well the interior, electronics, and driver-assistance features have held up. If a listing has prior damage, make sure the repairs were done cleanly and that the vehicle still feels tight on the road.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE is the most stripped-down version, with cloth seats, a 4.2-inch screen, and basic infotainment; higher trims add more comfort and convenience, while the base model leaves you with fewer safety and tech features.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, an available 3.5-liter V6 on SEL and Titanium, and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 on the Sport; the base setup emphasizes efficiency, while the Sport trades fuel economy for stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Available driver aids include lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer; many of these features are reserved for higher trims rather than the base model.
- Infotainment: Base models use a 4.2-inch screen with Sync, while Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and two USB ports.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport is rated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine with FWD can reach 21 mpg city/29 highway.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE is the value entry point, but it lacks the richer tech and safety content found higher up the range, and its cabin materials and infotainment are more basic.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best all-around pick if you want a stronger mix of comfort and convenience, with available upgrades like Sync 3, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot warning, and a hands-free liftgate.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the most polished choice, adding standard Sync 3, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, leather-trimmed heated seats, and more upscale amenities.
- Off-road trim: The Sport is the performance-focused choice, but its stronger engine and standard AWD come with lower fuel economy and a higher price, so it’s less compelling for typical daily driving.
The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where you can get features like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, and forward-collision warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,877 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,272.78, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,407 sits slightly below last year's $13,426.
That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled, which can be a challenge if you’re planning to sell soon. On the other hand, it may help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and avoid accident history, you’ll be in a better position to protect value later.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it an overall five-star rating with only one four-star rating for rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave it a Good in all crash tests except for small front overlap, in which it received an Acceptable rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Edge offers available lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer. Those features are not all standard, so you may need to move up to a higher trim to get the safety content you want.
The lack of front crash-mitigation technology also keeps it from qualifying for the Top Safety Pick+ rating.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It offers a practical, family-friendly crossover layout with strong space and comfort.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,244, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,407 average.
- It stands out as Ford’s performance-minded take on the Edge.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2017 is the stronger all-around choice thanks to its softer pricing, broad inventory, and solid owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you’re drawn to its sportier personality.
