Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 4.74 / 5 stars.

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is celebrated for its stunning looks, impressive power, and thrilling performance, particularly in the SS and ZL1 models, while some owners express concerns about interior upgrade options and limited cargo space.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro distinguishes itself in the competitive sports car market with its striking design and exhilarating performance. The SS model, equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, delivers a robust 455 horsepower, making it a thrilling choice for driving enthusiasts. The Camaro's handling is further enhanced by the available 1LE Track Performance Package, which transforms it into a track-ready machine with superior grip and braking capabilities. While the Camaro excels in performance and aesthetics, it does have some limitations, such as a cramped back seat and limited cargo space, which may not appeal to those seeking practicality. Overall, the Camaro remains a top contender for buyers looking for a blend of style and speed.

The 2SS has everything you could want as far as extra features. Beautiful leather interior, ambient lighting, heated & cooled seats, navigation, heads up display. The visibility in a Camaro takes some getting used to and there’s not much of a backseat. Other than that, set up like a race car with no extra storage or door pockets. It’s a beautiful car. This one is a 50th anniversary edition with the Fifty emblem on the steering wheel. This isn’t the car you want for good gas mileage with the V8. It sounds good with the dual exhaust. This car is prettier in person because the carbon fiber panels don’t show up well in photos.

There are 1,225 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare. If you find a listing below $21,930.90, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Yes — the 4.74/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the Camaro’s stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling acceleration, and handling. The overview also frames it as a strong fit if you want style and speed more than everyday practicality, while the user feedback highlights the smooth ride and advanced technology in higher trims.
The market also shows 29.5% good and great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a car people tend to enjoy over time for its strong performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology, with the main complaints centered on practicality rather than durability.
The expert evaluation describes the Camaro as a serious performance machine that can be counted on to deliver its intended driving experience, especially when properly equipped. It also notes that the 1LE package adds heavy-duty cooling and upgraded hardware, which supports hard use.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic dependability and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or track-oriented equipment. Focus on signs of prior body damage, tire wear, brake wear, and any evidence that the car was driven aggressively. Because visibility and rear-seat space are already weak points, condition and maintenance history matter even more when you’re narrowing down candidates.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup leaves out some of the more desirable driver-assistance and convenience features, while higher trims add more equipment and a more upscale feel.
- Powertrain: The Camaro ranges from a turbocharged 4-cylinder to a 6.2-liter V8, and the performance-oriented versions are tuned for serious speed rather than efficiency.
- Safety package: The car includes Teen Driver and a reversing camera, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are optional.
- Infotainment: The 8-inch touchscreen is paired with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the system also supports OnStar services and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The SS 1LE averaged 18.6 mpg on the test loop and showed 16.5 mpg over a week of driving, while the 1LE package on the Camaro LS should return 20 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, SS, ZL1.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LS is the entry point, but it lacks the richer interior feel and some of the more desirable tech and safety conveniences found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LT is the best value if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and everyday livability without jumping all the way to the performance-focused trims.
- Premium/top trim: The SS brings the 6.2-liter V8, stronger performance hardware, and the most compelling enthusiast appeal for most shoppers.
- Off-road trim: The 1LE package is the one to watch if you’re considering track use, but it’s less friendly for typical daily driving because of its hard-edged setup and heavy clutch.
The safety package note is simple: Teen Driver is included, while several driver-assistance features remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,225 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.74% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 56.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,930.90, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $24,977 sits slightly above last year's $24,077.
That price movement suggests the Camaro has held demand well, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A rising average price can support your exit value, especially if you buy at the lower end of the market range. Strong enthusiast appeal also tends to keep interest steady among shoppers looking for a performance coupe.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a five-star rating from the federal government, and in testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it gets dinged for Acceptable roof strength rather than Good.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro includes Teen Driver and a reversing camera as standard equipment. Optional safety features include blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors.
The main caveat is that it does not offer automatic emergency braking or automatic steering intervention, so you should not expect the kind of active safety tech found in some rivals.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.74% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 Camaro SS 1LE delivers standout track-focused performance and a highly engaging driving experience.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $23,175, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $24,977 average.
- It offers a complete redesign with a fresh, more refined take on the Camaro.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger performance story and are comfortable paying a bit more, the 2017 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2016 is the smarter value play and still gives you the Camaro’s core appeal.
