CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,224 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,410.00, 29.1% of 2017 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
56.9% of 2017 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a car that looks and sounds like a traditional American muscle car, yet delivers more than that first impression suggests. The test-drive description gives it the attitude of “the equivalent of a black leather jacket” and says it makes “an obnoxious amount of noise,” which captures the Camaro’s deliberately dramatic personality. It is also described as a car that reveals itself as “so much more” after one drive, pointing to a character that goes beyond style and sound alone.
Inside, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is presented as a tight, focused machine rather than a roomy one. The summary says there is space for just one passenger alongside the driver, and it adds a playful warning about bringing a motion-sickness bag. That makes the Camaro appealing to buyers who want a thrilling, intense driving experience more than everyday practicality. Owner feedback reinforces that appeal by praising its stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology, while also noting drawbacks such as limited cargo space, a back seat that is not especially favored, and visibility that is not ideal for those seeking practicality.

The 2SS has everything you could want as far as extra features. Beautiful leather interior, ambient lighting, heated & cooled seats, navigation, heads up display. The visibility in a Camaro takes some getting used to and there’s not much of a backseat. Other than that, set up like a race car with no extra storage or door pockets. It’s a beautiful car. This one is a 50th anniversary edition with the Fifty emblem on the steering wheel. This isn’t the car you want for good gas mileage with the V8. It sounds good with the dual exhaust. This car is prettier in person because the carbon fiber panels don’t show up well in photos.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Yes — 4.74/5 from owners, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the Camaro’s stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology. The overview also frames it as a car with a dramatic, attention-grabbing personality that goes beyond style and sound, while still being best suited to drivers who want an intense experience more than everyday practicality. With 28.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that many drivers enjoy for its impressive performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology, while also suggesting that the Camaro’s appeal holds up well over time for enthusiasts. The expert review also emphasizes the car’s strong driving character and track-ready capability, which supports the idea that it can feel dependable when maintained properly. The Camaro’s value proposition is strongest if you buy one that has been cared for consistently, because a used performance car like this can carry more ownership risk when prior use has been hard or neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on signs of wear that match the Camaro’s performance-oriented personality, including tire condition, brake wear, and any evidence of track use or repeated aggressive driving. Because visibility and practicality are recurring concerns, it also helps to make sure the car’s condition matches your expectations for daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SS 1LE stands out for its aggressive appearance, matte-finish hood, black front splitter, black side mirrors, black rear lip spoiler, and Satin Graphite aluminum wheels, but those features also come with a more focused, less everyday-friendly setup.
- Powertrain: The 6.2-liter V8 makes 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, and the 1LE package adds magnetic ride control, upgraded cooling, staggered-width Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, and Brembo brakes.
- Safety package: Teen Driver is the named safety feature, and it lets you set vehicle parameters for younger drivers while generating a driving report. Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are optional.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses MyLink with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and OnStar services. The system also includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, automatic crash response, crisis assist, and stolen-vehicle assistance.
- Fuel efficiency: The SS 1LE averaged 18.6 mpg on the test loop and 16.5 mpg over a week of driving, while the EPA combined estimate is 19 mpg. The LS with the 1LE package is described as capable of 20 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 1 trim level: SS 1LE.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SS 1LE is not a stripped-down commuter setup; it leans hard into performance, so you give up everyday friendliness for sharper track-focused hardware and a heavy clutch.
- Premium/top trim: The SS 1LE adds magnetic ride control, upgraded brakes, performance tires, a heads-up display, and the Performance Data Recorder, making it the most compelling choice if you want the most focused version described here.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that Teen Driver is included, while several driver-assistance features remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,245 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,929.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $24,227 sits slightly below last year's $24,456.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. For a future seller, that usually means you are not dealing with a dramatic value drop, but you also should not expect rapid appreciation. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones, especially because shoppers in this segment tend to care about condition and driving character.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a five-star rating from the federal government, and in testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety it gets Acceptable roof strength rather than top marks.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro includes Teen Driver, which lets you set driving parameters for a key fob and review a report of how the car was driven. A reversing camera is standard, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are optional. The main caveat is that it does not include automatic emergency braking or automatic steering assistance, so you should not expect the kind of active safety tech that some newer used cars offer.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review highlights track-ready performance and a dramatic, highly focused driving character.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $23,105, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $24,227 average.
- It offers a completely redesigned Camaro with a more refined feel, updated looks, and a better interior.
The bottom line: if you want the stronger current-market balance of price stability, owner satisfaction, and standout performance, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front and you value the redesigned feel of the prior year, the 2016 is the smarter budget-conscious alternative.
