CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,245 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,988.00, 28.8% of 2017 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
57.3% of 2017 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a car that looks and sounds like a traditional American muscle car, yet delivers more than that first impression suggests. The test-drive description gives it the attitude of “the equivalent of a black leather jacket” and says it makes “an obnoxious amount of noise,” which captures the Camaro’s deliberately dramatic personality. It is also described as a car that reveals itself as “so much more” after one drive, pointing to a character that goes beyond style and sound alone.
Inside, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is presented as a tight, focused machine rather than a roomy one. The summary says there is space for just one passenger alongside the driver, and it adds a playful warning about bringing a motion-sickness bag. That makes the Camaro appealing to buyers who want a thrilling, intense driving experience more than everyday practicality. Owner feedback reinforces that appeal by praising its stunning looks, impressive power, thrilling performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology, while also noting drawbacks such as limited cargo space, a back seat that is not especially favored, and visibility that is not ideal for those seeking practicality.

The 2SS has everything you could want as far as extra features. Beautiful leather interior, ambient lighting, heated & cooled seats, navigation, heads up display. The visibility in a Camaro takes some getting used to and there’s not much of a backseat. Other than that, set up like a race car with no extra storage or door pockets. It’s a beautiful car. This one is a 50th anniversary edition with the Fifty emblem on the steering wheel. This isn’t the car you want for good gas mileage with the V8. It sounds good with the dual exhaust. This car is prettier in person because the carbon fiber panels don’t show up well in photos.

| Year-Round High | $24,994.12 |

There are 1,255 listings available, which gives you a decent pool to compare before you commit.
If you find a listing below $21,939.50, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Yes — the 4.74/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the Camaro’s stunning looks, impressive power, and thrilling performance. The review summary also highlights the smooth ride and advanced technology, which fits a car aimed at driving enthusiasts rather than everyday utility shoppers. The overview reinforces that this model year is best suited to you if you want a sports car with serious style, strong acceleration, and a tech-forward cabin, even if practicality takes a back seat.
28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Review feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the car’s strong performance and smooth ride. The expert drive notes reinforce that the Camaro feels composed and capable, which supports confidence in how it holds up over time. If you buy used, your biggest long-term risk is choosing a car that has been driven hard or poorly maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven aggressively. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and signs of track use or hard launches. Because this is a sports car, you want to be especially careful about how the car was treated, not just how it looks.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin and feature set vary meaningfully by trim, and the base setup leaves out some of the more desirable comfort and convenience touches. You should pay close attention to how much equipment is included before assuming a lower-priced car is a bargain.
- Powertrain: The Camaro offers a range of engines, from a more economical turbocharged four-cylinder to a 6.2-liter V8 in higher-performance versions. Efficiency varies by setup, and the more powerful versions trade fuel economy for much stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: The car includes Teen Driver and a reversing camera as standard equipment. Blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors are available, so check carefully whether a used example has the driver-assistance features you want.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses an 8-inch touchscreen with MyLink, and it supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also offers a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and over-the-air-connected services through OnStar, so verify that the system is present and functioning properly.
- Fuel efficiency: One test loop returned 18.6 mpg, while the trip computer showed 16.5 mpg after a week of driving. The EPA combined estimate cited in testing was 19 mpg, and the more efficiency-minded setup is described as returning 20 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, SS, ZL1.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LS is the entry point, but it leaves you with fewer of the performance and convenience upgrades that make the Camaro feel special. If you want the Camaro experience without stretching too far, this is the trim where you’ll notice the most compromises.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LT is the best place to start if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and value. It gives you a better everyday ownership experience without pushing you into the highest-cost performance territory.
- Premium/top trim: The SS is the trim to target if you care most about the Camaro’s core appeal: power, handling, and a more serious performance character. It’s the most compelling choice if you want the strongest all-around version without going all the way to the most extreme setup.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
The safety package includes Teen Driver and a standard reversing camera, while blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?
The market still favors selective shoppers, so you should be ready to move when you find the right car.
- Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,255 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.01% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,939.50, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $24,988 sits slightly above last year's $24,023.
That upward move suggests the Camaro has held buyer interest well, which can help support resale strength if you buy the right example. For a future seller, that means condition, mileage, and accident history will matter a lot when it’s time to list the car again. A clean, well-kept Camaro should be easier to move than one with questionable history or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a five-star rating from the federal government, and in testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it gets dinged for Acceptable roof strength rather than Good.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro includes Teen Driver and a standard reversing camera. Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot warning with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors. The main caveat is that it does not offer automatic emergency braking or automatic steering assistance, so you should not expect the kind of active safety tech found in many newer mainstream cars.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.01% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 stands out for its strong performance and tech-forward appeal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $23,302, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $24,988 average.
- The 2016 emphasizes a fresh redesign and improved refinement.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger market signal and the more performance-focused version, the 2017 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
