What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?

At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, interior condition, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model emphasizes technology and luxury, it’s smart to make sure the features you care about work properly and that the cabin shows normal wear for the mileage. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on the ones with the cleanest history and the most complete maintenance records.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models already include an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a rear-view camera with parking sensors, LED running lights, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry with remote engine start, dual-zone auto climate control, a power liftgate, and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Luxury adds leather, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and more comfort features, while Platinum brings the most upscale equipment and tech.
• Powertrain: The XT5 uses a 3.6-liter V6 across the lineup, with 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. It delivers strong acceleration, but the engine can sound strained at higher revs and the transmission can feel jerky in stop-and-go traffic.
• Safety package: Cadillac’s Driver Awareness package adds forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, and lane-departure warning and assist. The Driver Assist package adds adaptive cruise, automatic parking, and an upgraded collision mitigation system. Some of these features are reserved for higher trims or options, so check carefully before you buy.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with CUE, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8-speaker Bose system. Navigation is available, and the system can be paired with an upgraded 14-speaker Bose setup. The tech also includes Qi wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The XT5 is EPA estimated at 18 mpg city and 26 highway, with a combined rating of 21. The expert drive also notes that real-world fuel economy can fall short of those figures.

Which 2017 Cadillac XT5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the XT5’s core luxury and tech without stretching the budget. You still get the 8-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, Bose audio, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, remote start, and a power liftgate, so it’s well equipped from the start.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a meaningful step up in comfort and convenience, including leather, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more seat adjustment.
• Premium Luxury: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it. It adds the Driver Awareness and Navigation packages, vented front seats, illuminated door handles, and continually adjusting suspension dampers.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most luxurious and tech-heavy XT5. It brings premium leather upholstery, unique styling details, a hands-free power liftgate, heated outer seats, 3-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera view, and a head-up display.

Safety features are spread across trims and options, so make sure the specific XT5 you’re considering has the driver-assistance equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make shopping worthwhile if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,208 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,869, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Cadillac XT5's resale value?

The current average of $14,869 sits slightly below last year's $16,408.

That decline suggests the XT5 has lost some value, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may need to be more competitive on asking price to stand out. The upside is that the current market still shows steady demand, so a clean, well-kept XT5 should remain sellable if it’s priced realistically.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 safe?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Cadillac equips it with a full suite of airbags, including curtain and driver knee airbags, plus traction and stability control systems and standard OnStar. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision alert and mitigation, lane-departure warning and correction, front pedestrian detection, parking sensors front and back, adaptive cruise with a following distance indicator, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Some of those features are limited to higher trims or options, so the safety picture depends heavily on the exact vehicle you choose.

Should I buy a 2017 Cadillac XT5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Cadillac’s focus on technology and luxury gives the XT5 a clear identity as a roomier, more modern replacement for the SRX.

The bottom line: The 2017 XT5 makes sense if you want a well-equipped luxury crossover and you’re comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the softer market to your advantage and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the newest trim.
