Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series reliable?

User feedback also points to a generally dependable ownership experience, with some drivers describing it as a car they can count on over time. At the same time, a few owners mention reliability concerns and minor issues, so you should expect some variation from one used example to another. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable if you choose carefully, but it is worth being selective about condition and maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, especially if you are comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Put a pre-purchase inspection near the top of your checklist so you can catch wear, repair quality, or hidden issues before they become your problem. Focus closely on overall condition, since a premium model like this can be costly if something needs attention later.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 890 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,845, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $15,845 sits slightly below last year's $16,789.

That price movement suggests the model has softened a bit in the near term, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. If you plan to sell later, the current market indicates you may not see rapid appreciation, so condition and mileage will matter a lot when it comes time to list it. Strong demand for well-kept examples should still support a reasonable resale path if you maintain the car carefully.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.08/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.08/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a smart primary choice if you want the updated look and equipment, a sporty driving feel, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better all-around pick when you want a balance of value, style, and buyer appeal.
