Generally — the 4.1/5 user rating points to a solid ownership experience. Drivers most often praise the performance and handling, along with the car’s power, quality, and stylish design. User feedback also points to a generally dependable ownership experience, with some drivers describing it as a great value and others noting that it feels trouble-free over time. At the same time, a few owners mention reliability concerns and minor issues, so you should expect used-BMW ownership to reward careful maintenance and a thorough pre-purchase check.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any candidate you’re serious about and confirm whether the car has had collision repairs, title issues, or repeated claims. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of repair quality, especially if you’re considering a convertible or a higher-mileage example. Because BMW repairs can be costly if something goes wrong, it’s smart to prioritize condition and maintenance records over a bargain price alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $15,406, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $15,406 sits slightly below last year's $16,768.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history rather than just the badge alone. Well-kept examples should hold up better than average because shoppers still respond to the model’s sporty feel and premium image.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want the updated look and equipment, plus a market that has softened enough to create some buying leverage. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want a balanced mix of style, features, and current value.
