Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q7 stands out as a redesigned return for Audi’s flagship SUV after a year away, bringing a new look, a new engine, and a significant reduction in weight. It also arrives with improved technology and more interior space, which helps make the Q7 feel more modern and more practical than before.
That combination gives the 2017 Q7 broad appeal for buyers who want a luxury SUV that emphasizes refinement and capability. Owners commonly praise its luxurious interior, smooth ride, performance, and advanced technology, along with its power and handling in different drive modes. At the same time, some drivers have raised concerns about fuel consumption, the auto start/stop function, and the infotainment system’s design, so its strengths are balanced by a few usability and efficiency drawbacks.

Best, highest quality vehicle we have ever owned - have owned most all other German brands, but this is our first Audi. We did our research & test drives and the Q7 was the best combination of power, safety, style, 7 seats (a must for us) and off the charts solid, luxury vehicle. There is nothing I dont like about my 2017 Q7. Really looking forward to a long road trip!

Stunning interior and super tech heavy. At first the interior technology seemed a little daunting, but with a little time behind the wheel became 2nd nature and appreciated. Incredibly smooth ride and the ability to change drive modes changes the cars personality which is really fun. I am not a fan of the engine auto on/off function while in traffic or at a stop light. Thankfully you get the option to shut that off. Love this car overall. It can be pricey, but there seem to be some decent deals out there on low mileage used vehicles if you are patient.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Q7’s smooth power delivery and the way its lighter design improves overall drivability, which supports the impression of a well-sorted SUV. Audi’s maintenance coverage language also notes that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium SUV like this can become expensive if prior maintenance was skipped or if high-end features need repair.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi Q7?
At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on any listing that looks unusually cheap for its trim or equipment. Focus on condition, prior damage, and whether the features you care about are working properly, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on its technology and luxury equipment. It’s also smart to compare service records so you can spot signs of deferred maintenance before you buy.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Premium trim brings luxury features even at the entry point, including a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a 7-inch MMI display, while Premium Plus adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, and blind-spot monitoring. Prestige adds a larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, ventilated front seats, and more upscale lighting and audio equipment.
- Powertrain: The turbocharged 4-cylinder delivers 252 hp, 273 lb-ft of torque, and 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined, while the supercharged V6 makes 333 hp and 325 lb-ft and gives up only 1 mpg in city and combined driving. Both engines use an 8-speed Tiptronic and quattro AWD.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with auto-brake, a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and Audi Pre-Sense. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring and, on Prestige, the Vision package can bring a surround-view camera.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses a 7-inch Audi MMI display, while higher trims can add navigation and a larger, high-resolution 8.3-inch display. The cabin also features the virtual cockpit and advanced electronic architecture.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 4-cylinder returns 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined, and the V6 sacrifices only 1 mpg in city and combined driving.
Which 2017 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2017 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the Q7’s core luxury and safety features without stretching too far. You still get the panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, parking sensors, forward-collision warning with auto-brake, and the 7-inch MMI display.
- Premium Plus: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of equipment and price. It adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, blind-spot monitoring, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and extra interior lighting, making it the most well-rounded choice for many shoppers.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want the most upscale Q7 experience, including the larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, ventilated front seats, and more premium audio and lighting features. It’s the most feature-rich version, but it also pushes the price up quickly.
The safety package is strongest when the Q7 is properly equipped, and the available driver-assistance features are a major part of its appeal across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q7?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,085 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.39% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,369.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $14,466 sits slightly below last year's $16,324.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Q7 more attractive to used buyers today but less favorable for a future seller trying to recover a higher purchase price. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may soften some of that depreciation impact. The key is to avoid overpaying now, because resale value will depend heavily on how well the SUV is maintained and how desirable its equipment remains.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Audi Q7 safe?
The 2017 Audi Q7 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, with top marks in all categories.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Q7’s safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, front and rear parking sensors, and Audi Pre-Sense, which can tighten the seatbelts, prime the brake lines, and close the windows and sunroof in an imminent crash. The available safety tech is a major strength, especially if you want a luxury SUV that leans heavily into driver assistance.
One caveat is that the adaptive cruise and forward-collision system has previously been noted for occasionally reacting to discolorations or small bumps as if they were obstacles, so you should test those systems carefully during a used-car inspection.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- After a year off, the Q7 returns with a full redesign, a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, improved technology, more interior space, and 700 pounds less curb weight.
The bottom line: The 2017 Q7 is the right pick if you want the redesigned version and you value its mix of luxury, technology, and efficiency gains. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should focus on the best-condition examples and be selective about trim and equipment so you get the strongest value for your money.
