Summary

Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Audi Q7 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q7 stands out as a full redesign that brought the flagship SUV back after a year hiatus with a new look, a new engine, and serious weight loss. It returns with a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, improved technology, more interior space, and a full visual redesign, while shedding 700 pounds of curb weight. Those changes give it a more modern feel and help make it appealing to buyers who want a luxury SUV that emphasizes refinement and efficiency in its packaging.
Owners also tend to praise the 2017 Audi Q7 for its luxurious interior, performance, and advanced technology. The smooth ride and strong capability in different drive modes add to its appeal, especially for drivers who value comfort and confident handling. At the same time, some owners have raised concerns about fuel consumption, the auto start/stop function, and the infotainment system’s design, so its strengths are balanced by a few practical drawbacks.

Best, highest quality vehicle we have ever owned - have owned most all other German brands, but this is our first Audi. We did our research & test drives and the Q7 was the best combination of power, safety, style, 7 seats (a must for us) and off the charts solid, luxury vehicle. There is nothing I dont like about my 2017 Q7. Really looking forward to a long road trip!

Stunning interior and super tech heavy. At first the interior technology seemed a little daunting, but with a little time behind the wheel became 2nd nature and appreciated. Incredibly smooth ride and the ability to change drive modes changes the cars personality which is really fun. I am not a fan of the engine auto on/off function while in traffic or at a stop light. Thankfully you get the option to shut that off. Love this car overall. It can be pricey, but there seem to be some decent deals out there on low mileage used vehicles if you are patient.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious interior, performance, and advanced technology, and they also highlight the smooth ride and confident handling in different drive modes. The Q7’s redesign, lighter weight, and more modern packaging fit well if you want a luxury SUV that emphasizes refinement and efficiency. At the same time, the market shows 27.9% good or great deals, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.
Is the 2017 Audi Q7 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free in daily use, with praise centered on its long-term appeal, smooth operation, and strong overall execution. The expert drive notes reinforce that impression by emphasizing the Q7’s mechanical elegance, smooth power delivery, and solid braking performance. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained carefully enough to preserve its premium systems and complex equipment.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi Q7?
At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident record or a long option list. Focus on condition, evidence of proper maintenance, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as intended. Because this is a luxury SUV with a lot of equipment, small issues can matter more than they would on a simpler vehicle.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Premium starts with a panoramic sunroof, LED running and taillights, leather upholstery, automatic wipers, power-folding heated mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with auto-brake, a reversing camera, 3-zone auto climate control, heated front seats with 8-way power and driver lumbar, and a 7-inch MMI display. Premium Plus adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable steering wheel, auto-dimming side mirrors, interior accent lighting, and blind-spot monitoring. Prestige adds LED headlights, a surround-view camera, a TFT display, ventilated front seats, 4-zone auto climate control, rear window sunshades, a larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, and a 19-speaker Bose stereo.
- Powertrain: The turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, returns 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined, and can tow 4,400 pounds. The supercharged V6 makes 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, gives up only 1 mpg in city and combined driving, and can tow 7,700 pounds with the optional towing package.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, quattro AWD, and Audi Pre-Sense. Optional equipment can add night vision and the Trailering Assistant. Base-trim buyers should note that some features are reserved for higher trims or packages.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses a 7-inch display, while higher trims add navigation and an 8.3-inch high-resolution display. The cabin also features the virtual cockpit and Google Earth integration, and the system is built around high-speed optical fiber architecture.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 4-cylinder is rated at 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined.
Which 2017 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2017 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the value play if you want the redesigned Q7 without stretching too far. You still get the panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, parking sensors, forward-collision warning with auto-brake, and the 7-inch MMI display, so it feels well equipped even at the entry point.
- Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable steering wheel, auto-dimming side mirrors, interior accent lighting, and blind-spot monitoring. If you want a more complete luxury-SUV experience without jumping to the top trim, this is the one to target.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want the most upscale cabin and the richest tech and comfort content. It adds LED headlights, a surround-view camera, ventilated front seats, 4-zone climate control, rear sunshades, a larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, and a 19-speaker Bose stereo.
The safety package is strongest when you move up from Premium to Premium Plus, where blind-spot monitoring joins the standard driver-assistance set.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q7?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,079 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.85% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,403.77, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $14,421 sits slightly below last year's $16,360.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale upside may be more limited unless your Q7 is especially clean, well maintained, and well equipped. Strong condition and desirable equipment should matter more than ever if you want to protect value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Audi Q7 safe?
The 2017 Audi Q7 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Q7 comes with a broad safety suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, front and rear parking sensors, quattro AWD, and Audi Pre-Sense, which can tighten the seatbelts, prime the brake lines, and close the windows and sunroof in an imminent crash. Higher trims and packages add more capability, including the surround-view camera and additional driver-assistance content. One caveat is that the adaptive cruise and forward-collision system has previously shown occasional false activations, so you should verify that the system behaves properly on a test drive.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.85% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- After a year off, the Q7 returns with a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, improved technology, more interior space, a full visual redesign, and 700 pounds less curb weight.
The bottom line: The 2017 Q7 makes sense if you want the redesigned version and you value its mix of luxury, technology, and efficiency gains. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the current market gives you room to shop carefully and focus on clean, well-equipped examples rather than paying up for the first one you see.
