Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q7 stands out as a redesigned return for Audi’s flagship SUV after a year away, bringing a new look, a new engine, and a significant reduction in weight. It also arrives with improved technology and more interior space, which helps make the Q7 feel more modern and more practical than before.
That combination gives the 2017 Q7 broad appeal for buyers who want a luxury SUV that emphasizes refinement and capability. Owners commonly praise its luxurious interior, smooth ride, performance, and advanced technology, along with its power and handling in different drive modes. At the same time, some drivers have raised concerns about fuel consumption, the auto start/stop function, and the infotainment system’s design, so its strengths are balanced by a few usability and efficiency drawbacks.

Best, highest quality vehicle we have ever owned - have owned most all other German brands, but this is our first Audi. We did our research & test drives and the Q7 was the best combination of power, safety, style, 7 seats (a must for us) and off the charts solid, luxury vehicle. There is nothing I dont like about my 2017 Q7. Really looking forward to a long road trip!

Stunning interior and super tech heavy. At first the interior technology seemed a little daunting, but with a little time behind the wheel became 2nd nature and appreciated. Incredibly smooth ride and the ability to change drive modes changes the cars personality which is really fun. I am not a fan of the engine auto on/off function while in traffic or at a stop light. Thankfully you get the option to shut that off. Love this car overall. It can be pricey, but there seem to be some decent deals out there on low mileage used vehicles if you are patient.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes smooth power delivery and a well-sorted drivetrain, which supports the impression of a vehicle you can count on.
If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk is less about outright mechanical fragility and more about buying a poorly maintained example, so condition and service history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi Q7?
At 70% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the advanced driver-assistance or infotainment systems aren’t working as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Premium starts with luxury basics like a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 7-inch display, and standard safety features including front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with auto-brake, and a reversing camera. Premium Plus adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable steering wheel, auto-dimming side mirrors, interior accent lighting, and blind-spot monitoring. Prestige adds LED headlights, a surround-view camera, ventilated front seats, 4-zone auto climate control, rear window sunshades, a larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, and a 19-speaker Bose stereo.
- Powertrain: The turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque and returns 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined. The supercharged V6 steps up to 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque with only a small fuel-economy penalty, and it delivers stronger acceleration and towing capability.
- Safety package: Standard and available safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, front and rear parking sensors, and Audi Pre-Sense. Some features are trim dependent, with blind-spot monitoring added on Premium Plus and the surround-view camera tied to Prestige equipment packages.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses a 7-inch Audi MMI display, while Prestige gets a larger 8.3-inch high-resolution screen. The cabin also features the virtual cockpit display, and the tech suite is built around fast in-car processing and a highly configurable interface.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 4-cylinder returns 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined. The V6 sacrifices only 1 mpg in the city and combined compared with the four-cylinder.
Which 2017 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2017 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the value play if you want the Q7’s core luxury experience without stretching too far. You still get the panoramic sunroof, leather, heated front seats, and key safety gear, so it covers the essentials well.
- Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, a power-adjustable steering wheel, auto-dimming side mirrors, interior accent lighting, and blind-spot monitoring. It gives you the most meaningful upgrades without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want the most upscale Q7 experience, including the larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, ventilated front seats, 4-zone climate control, rear sunshades, LED headlights, and the 19-speaker Bose stereo.
Safety equipment expands as you move up the range, with blind-spot monitoring added on Premium Plus and the surround-view camera included with Prestige packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q7?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,096 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.97% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,367, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $14,434 sits slightly below last year's $16,396.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be a double-edged sword for future sellers: you may not see rapid appreciation, but you also benefit from buying into a softer market. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Audi Q7 safe?
The 2017 Audi Q7 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, front and rear parking sensors, and Audi Pre-Sense, which can tighten the seatbelts, prime the brake lines, and close the windows and sunroof in an imminent crash. That gives you a broad set of active-safety tools, especially if you’re comparing luxury SUVs with advanced driver assistance.
One caveat is that the adaptive cruise and forward-collision system has previously been known to react too aggressively to discolorations or small bumps, so you should test those systems carefully during your inspection drive.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- After a year off, the Q7 returns with a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, improved technology, more interior space, a full visual redesign, and 700 pounds less curb weight.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, modern design, and premium features, the 2017 Q7 is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on well-kept examples, but the 2017 stands out because it combines a softer market with a major redesign and strong owner approval.
