What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi A4?

At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or has a long option list. Pay close attention to how the driver-assistance systems, infotainment features, and braking behavior operate in real-world use, since the A4 leans heavily on technology. It’s also smart to focus on interior condition and evidence of consistent maintenance, because this model’s appeal depends a lot on how well its premium features have been preserved.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium trim includes front-wheel drive, a 7-speed automated manual transmission, 17-inch aluminum wheels, HID headlights, leather seats, triple-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker sound system, and a forward-collision warning system with front and rear automatic emergency braking. Premium Plus adds S-line exterior trim, larger 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, parking-assist sensors, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, passive keyless entry, and SOS emergency calling. Prestige adds Audi Virtual Cockpit, navigation with handwriting recognition, Audi Connect services, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and a 360-degree top-view camera system.

• Powertrain: The A4 uses a direct-injected 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox. Quattro all-wheel drive is available and adds a self-locking center differential, while Drive Mode Select lets you tailor engine response, transmission behavior, and steering.

• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense Basic and Pre-Sense City are standard, along with forward collision warning, front and rear automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic assist, lane-departure warning and assist, turn assist, Pre-Sense Rear, and automatic high-beam headlights. Some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

• Infotainment: The A4 can be equipped with an 8.3-inch MMI screen, Audi Virtual Cockpit, handwriting recognition, and Audi Connect services with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The system is not touch sensitive, and the tech suite expands significantly on higher trims.

• Fuel efficiency: The Quattro model is said to return 27 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 23.1 mpg.

Which 2017 Audi A4 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Audi A4 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong core package with leather seats, triple-zone climate control, a 10-speaker audio system, and standard collision-avoidance tech. If you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned A4, this is the one to start with.

• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the equipment that makes the A4 feel more upscale, including LED headlights, parking-assist sensors, passive keyless entry, and the Bang & Olufsen sound system. It also opens the door to more of the A4’s desirable technology and driver-assistance features.

• Prestige: This is the trim to choose if you want the full tech showcase, including Audi Virtual Cockpit, navigation, Audi Connect, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera system. It’s the right pick if you want the most advanced version of the car.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, where you get the most complete set of driver-assistance features.

What is the 2017 Audi A4's resale value?

The current average of $13,484 sits slightly below last year's $14,543.

That price movement suggests the A4 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting additional value loss over your ownership period. The car’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand in the used market.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.47/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Audi A4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.47/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 A4 is the redesigned model that points most clearly toward Audi’s future, with standout tech like Virtual Cockpit and strong praise for its luxury, comfort, performance, and smooth handling.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern-feeling version of this generation, the 2017 is the one to target because it combines the redesign, strong owner feedback, and a softer price than a year ago. If your priority is simply spending less, a nearby older year may save money, but you’ll give up some of the 2017’s tech-forward appeal and redesign benefits.
