Is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid reliable?

It also describes the powertrain as a capable setup with strong fuel economy and pleasing driving dynamics, which supports the case for dependable everyday use.

Toyota’s hybrid system is presented as a mature, well-rounded package, and the review notes that the vehicle remains level through cornering and absorbs bumps well. What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the hybrid-specific equipment and electronics work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as a blend of form and function, and the Limited adds a two-tone interior with extensive leatherette and soft-touch materials for a more near-luxury feel. The XLE is the more basic choice, so you should expect fewer upscale touches there.
• Powertrain: The hybrid setup uses a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder with three electric motors for 194 net horsepower and electronic all-wheel drive. It is also rated at 34 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, and the review notes that the rear motor supplies power only to the rear wheels.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes pre-collision sensing and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, auto-dimming high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. The review also highlights the available bird’s-eye-view camera with proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: Both XLE and Limited trims feature Toyota’s 6.1-inch touchscreen navigation system, and the system includes Bluetooth, USB connectivity, and app access. The review notes that it does not feature Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 34 mpg city, 31 highway, and 33 combined, and the review says real-world driving returned around 33 and 34 mpg in combined city and highway use.

Which 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is offered in 2 trim levels: XLE Hybrid and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XLE Hybrid: This is the better-value choice if you want the hybrid powertrain, the 6.1-inch touchscreen navigation system, and the core efficiency and capability benefits without paying for the more upscale cabin treatment. It is the trim the review points to as the sensible pick if you want the smaller wheels and larger tires that can help smooth out bumps.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the more premium interior presentation, including the two-tone cabin, leatherette, and soft-touch materials. It suits you best if you care more about a near-luxury feel and are willing to pay more for it.

Toyota Safety Sense P is part of the safety story here, and the available bird’s-eye-view camera with proximity sensors is a useful add-on if parking assistance matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 307 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,816, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $18,294 sits slightly above last year's $18,173.

That kind of stability suggests the market has been steady rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A used model that holds close to its prior-year pricing usually gives you a clearer sense of what buyers are willing to pay.

Because the average price has moved only modestly, you should expect resale value to depend more on condition, mileage, and history than on broad market swings. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid safe?

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes pre-collision sensing and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, auto-dimming high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. The review also calls out the available rear-view camera and bird’s-eye-view camera with proximity sensors as especially useful for parking.

The safety writeup also notes the full complement of front and side impact airbags. The available camera and sensor setup is a practical advantage, especially if you want extra help in tight spaces.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
