How much does the 2016 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices are up 2.56% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 2,004 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners most often praise its fuel efficiency, smooth ride, and value for money. The review summary also points to a comfortable cabin feel and a generally reliable, dependable ownership experience.

That lines up with the Corolla’s role as a practical economy car: you’re getting a sensible daily driver that focuses on the essentials rather than a long list of extras. With 33.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still meaningful market value to be found.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary describes the Corolla as reliable and dependable, and it also suggests owners see it as a car they can count on for everyday use. The expert commentary reinforces that theme by emphasizing reliable daily driving for years, if not decades to come.

The ownership picture is helped by the Corolla’s straightforward mechanical setup and value-focused design, though some buyers have noted concerns around the CVT transmission. For used shoppers, that means reliability looks solid overall, but a careful test drive and service-history review still matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

At 43.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings with similar prices.

Focus on condition, maintenance records, and how the car drives in everyday use. If you’re considering a higher-mileage example, pay extra attention to transmission behavior, cabin wear, and whether the equipment level matches the trim you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the most basic version, while the LE adds a touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats. The S adds a more distinctive exterior look with integrated fog lights, a rear spoiler, and available 17-inch alloy wheels.
• Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder. Most versions make 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, while the LE Eco uses Valvematic technology and other mechanical tweaks to reach 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Models with the touchscreen also get an integrated backup camera, but the Corolla does not offer forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The base car uses a conventional touchscreen and controls layout. The LE gets a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and the system includes Entune apps, voice control, and Siri Eyes Free when paired with a Bluetooth-connected iPhone. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The most common setup earns 29 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the base L with the 4-speed automatic returns 27/36/31. The 6-speed versions return 28/37/31, and the LE Eco gets 30/42/36.

Which 2016 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, and S.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the lowest starting price along with Bluetooth, USB input, LED headlights, and eight airbags. It makes sense if you want the cheapest path into Corolla ownership and can live without the touchscreen and comfort upgrades.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 6.1-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats without moving into the sportier, pricier end of the lineup.
• LE Eco: Choose this if fuel economy is your top priority. It uses the same 1.8-liter engine with efficiency-focused tuning and delivers the best mpg figures in the lineup.
• S: This trim is for you if you want the Corolla’s sportier appearance, with unique grille treatment, fog lights, alloy wheels, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the touchscreen-equipped models add the backup camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,004 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.56% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 43.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,972, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $12,712 sits slightly above last year's $12,394.

That upward move suggests the Corolla has held demand reasonably well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A model year that is still trading above its prior-year average usually has enough shopper interest to support resale strength.

The Corolla’s value-focused reputation also helps keep it relevant in the used market. If you maintain it well and keep service records, you should be in a better position when it’s time to list it.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, and more. Models equipped with the touchscreen also have an integrated backup camera.

The main caveat is that the Corolla lacks several advanced driver-assistance features that were becoming more common in the segment, including forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. That means the safety story is solid on fundamentals, but not especially advanced by newer small-car standards.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 43.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.56% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model emphasizes fuel economy, cost-effectiveness, and a strong value proposition in a very competitive small-car segment.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,841, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,712 average.
• It’s a dependable, sensible compact car with a more enjoyable everyday-driving personality.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $13,912, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,712 average.
• It adds standard Safety Sense P and a reversing camera for stronger safety content.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the right pick if you want a value-first Corolla with strong efficiency and a reasonable used price. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2015 is the cheaper path; if safety equipment matters more, the 2017 is the smarter upgrade.

How does the 2016 Toyota Corolla compare to the 2016 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2016 Toyota Corolla 7.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Civic 8/10.

The Corolla is the value play: it costs less on the used market, has a higher share of good and great deals, and delivers strong fuel economy for the class. The Civic asks for more money, but it brings more power, better mpg, and a stronger overall expert score.

If you want the cheaper, simpler choice, the Corolla makes sense. If you want the more refined and better-equipped compact car, the Civic is the stronger pick.
