What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Camry?

At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any prior collision. Focus on body condition, tire wear, and whether the car drives as smoothly as the Camry’s reputation suggests. Since some owners noted missing newer tech features in the trim they bought, you should also confirm the equipment list matches what you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base-level setup is described as well-equipped, but some examples were sold without newer technology features such as CarPlay and newer safety systems.
• Powertrain: The Camry uses a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder/electric motor combination with a 244.8-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and it is rated at 40 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.
• Safety package: The Camry Hybrid includes a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with five stars in side impacts and four stars for frontal. It comes with 10 airbags, ABS, traction control, and stability control.
• Infotainment: The Entune Premium system uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and the cabin includes USB and Aux inputs along with dual 12-volt power outlets.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry Hybrid is rated at 40 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate your car’s value and avoid sharp depreciation surprises. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to list the car.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers a competent, well-rounded hybrid sedan experience with strong space and safety.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,078, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,702 average.
• It adds more style and a more polished interior.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,967, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,702 average.
• It represents the final, most evolved version of this generation.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, owner satisfaction, and broad practicality, the 2016 is the safe middle ground. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2015 is the value play; if you want the most mature version of this generation, the 2017 is the upgrade path.

How does the 2016 Toyota Camry compare to the 2016 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2016 Toyota Camry 7.2/10 and the 2016 Honda Accord 6.8/10. The Camry brings a stronger value case with a lower average used price and a slightly better share of good and great deals. The Accord counters with more horsepower and better city and highway MPG figures. If you want the cheaper, more plentiful option, the Camry makes sense; if you want the stronger efficiency and output numbers, the Accord has the edge.
