How much does the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 8.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,267 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and conditions.

Is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise the safety features, reliability, all-wheel drive, versatility, and easy handling. That lines up well with the Crosstrek’s practical, compact-crossover use case, especially if you want something that feels useful in everyday driving rather than quick or sporty.

With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a meaningful amount of market value to consider.

Is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they feel confident counting on it day to day. The expert evaluation also notes that the Crosstrek’s practical strengths are offset by a powertrain that holds it back, but not by a lack of durability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the cabin or chassis and more about making sure the vehicle has been maintained well enough to avoid compounding the drivetrain’s weaknesses.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, alignment, and repair quality. Because the Crosstrek’s appeal is tied to safety, practicality, and all-wheel-drive usefulness, condition matters a lot more than cosmetic extras. It’s also smart to focus on how the powertrain feels in real driving, since that’s the area most likely to shape your ownership experience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.0i includes 17-inch alloys, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a rear-view camera, fog lights, a 6.2-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, and a USB port/Aux input. The 2.0i Premium adds heated, body-color mirrors, heated front seats, an upgraded stereo, contrast stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, an adjustable center armrest, and a cargo cover and tray. The 2.0i Limited adds upgraded gauges and infotainment with a 7-inch touchscreen and satellite radio, auto climate control, auto headlights, leather, and an acoustic windshield.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter boxer engine makes 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. A 5-speed manual is standard on the 2.0i and 2.0i Premium, while the CVT is optional on the Premium and standard on the Limited. The CVT improves efficiency but can feel strained at highway speeds.
• Safety package: The Eyesight safety system adds rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning. The Crosstrek also includes 4-wheel antilock brakes, traction and stability control, a full suite of airbags, a rear-view camera, and active front head restraints. The system can be disabled when visibility is blocked.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses a 6.2-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, while the Limited upgrades to a 7-inch touchscreen and satellite radio. Starlink adds automatic collision notification with SOS, stolen-vehicle recovery, and a monitoring app.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual transmission is rated at 23 mpg city/31 highway, and the CVT adds 3 mpg on either end of the spectrum.

Which 2016 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0i: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want a well-equipped Crosstrek with a rear-view camera, smartphone integration, fog lights, and the core utility that makes the model appealing.
• 2.0i Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds heated front seats, heated mirrors, a better stereo, and nicer interior touches without pushing the price as high as the Limited.
• 2.0i Limited: Choose this if you want the most comfort and tech, including the 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, auto climate control, auto headlights, leather, and the acoustic windshield.

The safety package adds useful driver-assistance features, but the system can be affected when the camera view is blocked.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru Crosstrek?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,267 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,490, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $12,490 sits slightly below last year's $13,581.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The Crosstrek’s practical reputation and broad appeal should help support demand, even if the current market is softer than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2016 Subaru Crosstrek earns top marks from both the IIHS and NHTSA, with a four-star overall frontal-impact result from NHTSA and top ratings in the rest of its crash testing.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Crosstrek comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic collision notification with SOS, stolen-vehicle recovery, a monitoring app, 4-wheel antilock brakes, traction and stability control, a rear-view camera, active front head restraints, and a full suite of airbags. The main caveat is that the Eyesight system can shut off when the camera view is blocked by sun, fog, dirt, snow, or mud.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model adds Starlink and useful safety features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure alert.

The bottom line: The 2016 Crosstrek makes sense if you want the updated safety and tech package and you’re comfortable shopping carefully for condition. If you’re price-sensitive, the softer market and decent inventory make this a good year to compare multiple listings and prioritize the cleanest example over the cheapest one.
