How much does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder cost?

There are 747 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used Pathfinder options to compare.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth driving experience, comfort, power, and cargo space, especially when you need the third row. That makes it a practical fit if you want a family-sized SUV that is easy to live with day to day.

The Pathfinder is best viewed as a functional family hauler rather than a standout choice, which matches its straightforward, practical character in the overview. Even so, 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you can still find value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free feel, with owners especially appreciating the Pathfinder’s comfort and the way it handles family duty over the long term. The expert evaluation also describes the V6 as dependable and powerful, which supports confidence in everyday use.

The Pathfinder’s ownership risk for used buyers is less about outright failure and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained well and still feels solid after years of family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to focus on cabin condition, since this SUV’s appeal depends heavily on interior comfort and family usability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The basic S trim level is front-wheel drive, while SV, SL, and Platinum add equipment and refinement; the SL also gets Tech and Premium sub-trim designations.
• Powertrain: You get a single 3.5-liter V6 with 260 horsepower and a CVT, with optional 4WD that adds an automatic mode and a lock mode.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert; it cannot be equipped with forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The system lacks natural voice recognition, smartphone projection, NissanConnect app features, and connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation notes 20.2 mpg on a test loop and an EPA estimate of 21 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Pathfinder’s core space and family utility at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the basics and plan to keep costs down.
• SV: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping to the top end. It should suit most shoppers who want a more complete daily driver.
• SL: This trim adds a more upscale feel, and the Tech and Premium sub-trim designations make it the most flexible middle-ground choice. It is the best-value path if you want more comfort and features without paying Platinum money.
• Platinum: This is the fully loaded choice, aimed at you if you want the most upscale Pathfinder experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert, but it cannot be equipped with forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Nissan Pathfinder?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have room to shop but should still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 747 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,085, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $9,085 sits slightly below last year's $10,362.

That price movement suggests the Pathfinder has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting further value loss than someone who paid closer to the prior-year level.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The Pathfinder earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from the federal government, and it otherwise performs well in IIHS crash tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera with rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, a 360-degree top-down monitor, and Easy Fill Tire Alert. It does not offer drowsy-driver detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, forward-collision warning, or automatic emergency braking, and that missing active-safety hardware is a notable shortcoming.

Should I buy a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its spacious interior and smooth driving experience.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,565, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,085 average.
• It offers a roomier, family-hauling focus with broader appeal for buyers who want a more modern-feeling SUV.

The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and can live with the 2016 Pathfinder’s dated tech, it is the better value play. If you can stretch your budget, the 2017 is the safer bet for shoppers who want a newer-feeling alternative.

How does the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder compare to the 2016 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder 6.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Pilot 7.3/10.
