Used 2016 Nissan Frontier for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2016 Nissan Frontier cost?

Prices are up 1.20% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 729 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.29/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating, which points to a truck that resonates with owners even if it trails the class in freshness. The model scores 8/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners most often praise the powerful V6 engine, reliability, and comfortable interior, and they also like the handling plus practical features such as the rear camera and Bluetooth. In use-case terms, that lines up with the Frontier’s straightforward, no-nonsense role as a durable everyday pickup rather than a cutting-edge redesign. Good and great deals account for 28.5% of listings, so there’s still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.29/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, durability, and a truck that feels dependable for everyday use. The expert evaluation also describes the Frontier as a competent truck for less money, which supports the idea that it can be a sensible long-term ownership choice if you value proven basics over newer features. If you buy used, the main risk is age-related wear and the possibility that a neglected example will show its years more quickly than a newer rival.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Nissan Frontier?

At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with off-road use. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim level you expect. Because this model year is older and some listings may have accident history, condition matters a lot more than just the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is very sparse, while the SV adds 16-inch alloys, a full power package, a 5-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, satellite radio, and keyless entry. Higher trims add more equipment, and the Pro-4X stands out with 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 10-speaker Rockford Fosgate stereo, and an upgraded 5.8-inch touchscreen.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder is the entry engine, but the 4.0-liter V6 brings 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque and is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration and towing. The V6 also gives you much more capability, with towing rising to 6,500 pounds in the configuration described.
• Safety package: The Frontier comes standard with 4-wheel antilock discs, dual front, front-side, and full-length curtain-side airbags, and stability control. Rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera are available, and the Pro-4X can be equipped with the Value Truck package that adds those features along with other convenience upgrades.
• Infotainment: The base S trim can be very basic, while the SV brings a 5-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and satellite radio. The Pro-4X upgrades to a 5.8-inch touchscreen, and the system includes NissanConnect smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine can return as much as 19 mpg city and 23 highway with the 5-speed manual. The V6 drops only slightly in rear-drive/manual form, but 4WD with the automatic is rated at 15 city/21 highway.

Which 2016 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2016 Nissan Frontier is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, Desert Runner, Pro-4X, and SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the cheapest way into the Frontier, but it is very bare-bones with cloth upholstery, 15-inch steel wheels, and limited standard equipment. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry price and are willing to live with a spartan setup.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds 16-inch alloys, a full power package, a 5-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, satellite radio, and keyless entry. If you want a usable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• Desert Runner: This trim adds aesthetic touches plus an off-road suspension and tires, but it is limited to rear-wheel drive. It suits you if you want a more rugged look and feel without moving all the way to the Pro-4X.
• Pro-4X: This is the off-road-focused choice, with 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, the Value Truck package, a 10-speaker Rockford Fosgate stereo, and the upgraded 5.8-inch touchscreen. It is the right pick if you want the most capability and equipment.
• SL: This is the top-tier trim, but it loses the off-road hardware from the Pro-4X and instead adds 18-inch alloys and side steps. It fits you best if you want a more upscale appearance rather than trail-oriented gear.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, with rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera available on higher equipment combinations.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Nissan Frontier?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 729 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.20% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 61.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,522, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $15,393 sits slightly above last year's $15,210.

That modest increase suggests the Frontier has held value reasonably well for a used truck in this price band. For a future seller, the current trend is encouraging because it shows steady demand rather than a sharp drop. If the truck is well maintained and accident-free, you should have a better chance of attracting buyers who value the Frontier’s reputation for durability and straightforward ownership.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.29/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Nissan Frontier safe?

The Frontier earns top IIHS marks in all tests except the seat/head restraint evaluation, which is rated Acceptable, and it earns a four-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Frontier comes standard with 4-wheel antilock discs, dual front, front-side, and full-length curtain-side airbags, and stability control. You can also get rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera, which help with low-speed maneuvering. One caveat to keep in mind is the recall affecting certain V6 trucks built in a narrow 2016 window, so it’s smart to confirm that any used example you’re considering has had all recall work completed.

Should I buy a 2016 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.20% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.29/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model adds new colors and makes a sunroof standard on the SV trim, while still leaning on the Frontier’s familiar, durable formula.

The bottom line: If you want a simple, proven used truck with decent owner satisfaction and a market that still offers some deal opportunities, the 2016 Frontier is a reasonable path. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-mileage listings near the bottom of the range and prioritize condition and history over trim prestige.
