Used 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for Sale near Illinois

Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter a good car?

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a highly practical full-size van that combines configurability, comfort, and capability in a way few rivals match. It offers three wheelbases, four vehicle lengths, and three roof heights, so you can tailor it to cargo, shuttle, or work use. It also stands out for its unusually refined cabin and pleasant ride for a vehicle of this size, which makes it appealing if you want utility without giving up too much comfort. The market signal is moderate: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter reliable?

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has a long-running reputation for durability when properly maintained. Its BlueTEC 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 and five-speed automatic are part of that reputation, but ownership can become costly if emissions components need attention. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is tied less to the basic concept and more to how well the diesel emissions system and maintenance history have been handled.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter?

At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected structural areas, cargo openings, or body alignment. A pre-purchase inspection should prioritize the diesel emissions system, especially the DEF system, EGR valve, and DPF, since those are noted problem areas. You should also focus on overall maintenance records and general condition, because neglected upkeep can quickly turn a practical van into an expensive one.

Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a strong choice if you want the Sprinter’s practicality, configurability, and refined driving feel in a year with a decent share of attractive listings. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
