Mazda’s cost-effectiveness notes add that it is predicted to be inexpensive to own, though warranty coverage is merely average, so you should still pay attention to maintenance history on a used example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mazda MAZDA6?

At 44.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you’re comparing cars with similar prices but different condition histories. Focus on signs of uneven wear, incomplete repairs, and any missing equipment that could affect comfort or safety.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Grand Touring stands out for its upscale feel and available Technology Package, while Touring and Grand Touring add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert as standard. The base trim is more likely to leave you without some of the convenience and safety equipment that makes this car feel more premium.
• Powertrain: The standard 184-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder is the only engine offered, paired with a 6-speed automatic in Grand Touring and a 6-speed manual in Sport and Touring. The review notes strong driving dynamics and good fuel economy, but also says you may wish for more power.
• Safety package: The Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, radar cruise control with forward-collision warning, and Smart Brake Support automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes standard on Touring and Grand Touring, so lower trims miss some of the most useful driver aids.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a center-console Commander knob, a top-of-dash display, voice commands, and touch input when stopped. It also includes E911, text-messaging support, Aha and Pandora integration, and available navigation with 2D and 3D map rendering.
• Fuel efficiency: The review cites 29.3 mpg during testing, and the EPA figures listed are 28 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?

The 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point if you want the Mazda6’s styling and driving character at the lowest price, and it’s the trim to choose if you specifically want the 6-speed manual. It gives you the core Mazda6 experience, but you’ll give up some of the comfort and safety equipment that makes the higher trims feel more complete.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a stronger mix of everyday comfort and safety equipment without pushing all the way to the top. It also gets blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, which makes it a smart middle ground if you want more confidence and convenience.
• Grand Touring: This is the trim to buy if you want the most upscale Mazda6 experience, including the standard 6-speed automatic and the available Technology Package. It suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

The safety-package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on Touring and Grand Touring, while the Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, radar cruise control, and Smart Brake Support.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mazda MAZDA6?

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 522 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 5.29% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 44.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,095, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?

The current average of $12,359 sits slightly above last year's $11,738.

That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay a bit more for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The Mazda6’s combination of style, efficiency, and strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially among shoppers who want a sedan that feels more upscale than its price suggests. If the car stays well maintained and accident-free, it should remain easier to market than a less distinctive midsize sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?

The 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, radar cruise control with forward-collision warning, and Smart Brake Support automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert comes standard on Touring and Grand Touring, so lower trims miss some of the key driver-assistance features. The review also notes that the radar cruise control could be smoother in operation, but the overall safety package is still a major strength.

Should I buy a 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 44.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 5.29% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines upscale styling, strong fuel efficiency, and top-tier technology and safety scores.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,270, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,359 average.
• It offers sharp styling, an upscale look, and engaging driving dynamics.

The 2016 is the better pick if you want the more polished, better-equipped version and are comfortable paying a bit more for it. If your priority is saving money and you still want the Mazda6’s core style and driving appeal, the 2015 is the value-oriented alternative.

How does the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 compare to the 2016 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6 8.7/10 and the 2016 Honda Accord 6.8/10.

The Mazda6 is the more compelling choice if you care about style, handling, and a more upscale feel for the money. The Accord counters with slightly stronger fuel economy and a larger used-market footprint, but the Mazda6 brings the better expert score, stronger safety and technology marks, and a lower average used price.
