Used 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman for Sale nearNew York, NY

How much does the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman cost?

Prices have softened 2.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 160 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman a good car?

The 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman earns a 6.5/10 expert rating, and MINI’s own pitch for it is clear: it is the biggest car the brand had built at that point, with a design meant to work as family transport. That makes it appealing if you want MINI style in a more practical package.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The overview and test-drive notes also make the tradeoff clear: you get a more grown-up, distinctive MINI, but some of the charm and completeness that shoppers may expect from the brand are missing. If you value style, heritage, and a compact family-friendly footprint, this model fits that use case well; if you want a more fully rounded small car, the review suggests you may feel shortchanged.

33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman reliable?

The overview frames the 2016 Clubman as a bigger, more practical MINI, but also one that leaves out some important ingredients. The expert review reinforces that idea by pointing to a premium-positioned car that can feel incomplete in places, especially when you weigh its price against its equipment and overall polish.

On the positive side, the performance notes say the standard turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine is strong enough to carry a family of four, merge safely, and handle highway and mountain driving without drama. The cost-effectiveness notes also say scheduled maintenance is free for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles of ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Clubman’s premium pricing and uneven completeness can make it harder to feel like a straightforward, low-stress buy over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman?

At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or optioned heavily. Pay close attention to body condition, panel fit, interior wear, and whether the equipment on the car matches what the seller claims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Clubman emphasizes style and personalization, but the review notes that the control layout can be awkward and the materials do not always feel worthy of the price premium. The more powerful Cooper S is described as more fun to drive and can be optioned with all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine makes 134 horsepower and is described as strong enough for everyday family use, with enough torque to merge and cruise confidently. The Cooper S is the more powerful choice if you want more urgency.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance setup centers on forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, called Active Driving Assistant. It appears to be tied to a costly package, and the review says blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist are not offered.
• Infotainment: MINI Connected uses an 8.8-inch display, navigation, handwriting recognition, and voice control. The test car lacked Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The review says the Clubman averaged 29.6 mpg in combined driving, beating its EPA estimate of 28 mpg combined.

Which 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman trim should I buy?

The 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman is offered in 2 trim levels: Cooper and Cooper S.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the trim that best matches the review’s core takeaway: it delivers the Clubman’s style, practicality, and enough performance for everyday use without forcing you into the pricier version. It is the best-value choice if you want the MINI experience and can live with the car’s compromises.
• Cooper S: Choose this if you want the more powerful and more fun-to-drive version. The review says it can be optioned with all-wheel drive, so it is the better pick if you care more about extra performance than value.

The safety package is not broadly standard, and the important driver-assistance features appear to require a costly package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 160 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,376, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman's resale value?

The current average of $9,613 sits slightly below last year's $9,896.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you should be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. For a future seller, the key will be condition, mileage, and whether the car has the right equipment to stand out in a small but active market.

Is the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content says the Clubman offers forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, but that important feature is tied to a costly package. It also notes that blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist are not available, which leaves some notable gaps for a family-oriented car.

The review also says crash-test ratings were not available at the time, so you should lean heavily on the available driver-assistance equipment and the car’s actual condition when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• The expert review says this redesigned Clubman is the biggest MINI yet and can serve as family transport, but it also leaves out some important ingredients.

The bottom line: If you want the biggest, most practical MINI of this era and you can find one with a clean history and the right equipment, the 2016 is worth considering. If you are price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained example you can find rather than chasing a specific year alone, because condition and equipment matter a lot here.

How does the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman compare to the 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen?

Our experts score the 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman 6.5/10 and the 2016 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen 8/10.

The Clubman leans harder into style and personality, while the Golf SportWagen comes across as the more complete and better-rounded choice. The MINI’s strengths are its distinctive design and premium feel, but the review also points to missing features and a less satisfying overall package. The Volkswagen looks like the stronger value if you want more space, more power, and a more convincing all-around used-car proposition.
