How much does the 2016 Lincoln MKX cost?

Prices have softened 9.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Lincoln MKX earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth ride, spacious interior, and advanced technology. That lines up with the MKX’s use case as a premium crossover for you if you want comfort and equipment more than maximum polish or cargo space. The tradeoff is that some shoppers note the cargo area is smaller than competitors, so it fits best if your priorities lean toward everyday comfort and upscale features.

33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its smooth ride, powerful yet economical engines, and the kind of luxury features people can count on over time. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by highlighting the MKX’s responsive turbocharged powertrain and its composed, easygoing driving character.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated the build-quality or refinement issues some examples showed.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lincoln MKX?

At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any signs of prior bodywork or inconsistent panel fit. Focus closely on cabin condition, electronics, and evidence of careful ownership, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on its features and overall presentation. If you’re comparing multiple examples, the cleanest, best-documented one is usually worth the extra effort.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base MKX starts with a strong luxury look, but the Reserve equipment package adds important equipment, and the loaded test vehicle shows how quickly features can stack up. If you want the most complete experience, look closely at how the equipment packages change the cabin and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 delivers 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque, and the 6-speed automatic responds well in Sport mode. The standard 3.7-liter V6 is also mentioned, but the turbocharged engine is the one called out for stronger performance.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, brake support and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and driver alert monitoring. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert comes with the Reserve equipment package.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is the system you want, with faster response time, improved voice recognition, better graphics, and a touchscreen interface that behaves more like a smartphone. Early-build versions may have MyLincoln Touch instead, which is slower and harder to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged V6 returned 18.5 mpg in testing, and the official combined rating is 19 mpg.

Which 2016 Lincoln MKX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lincoln MKX is offered in 2 trim levels: Base and Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the starting point if you want the MKX’s styling, comfort, and core luxury feel without stretching for more equipment. It makes sense if you’re focused on value and plan to add only the options you truly want.
• Reserve: This is the better choice if you want the more complete luxury experience, since it adds meaningful equipment and includes blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert. It’s the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the MKX closer to the fully equipped character that defines this model.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Reserve equipment package adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, while the Driver Assistance Package is where you get the broader active-safety suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Lincoln MKX?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 527 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,515, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Lincoln MKX's resale value?

The current average of $12,821 sits slightly below last year's $14,123.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you’re thinking about future trade-in value. For a seller, the current pricing trend means you should expect a more competitive resale environment than last year, especially if your vehicle has average mileage or visible wear. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should still attract attention, but the broader market is leaning in the buyer’s favor.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX safe?

The 2016 Lincoln MKX earns five-star ratings in each NHTSA assessment, combined with a four-star rollover resistance rating. It also receives Good ratings for moderate offset frontal impact and side impact tests from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The MKX’s safety suite includes MyKey programmable vehicle settings, subscription-free 911 Assist, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert on the Reserve equipment package, and the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, brake support and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and driver alert monitoring. The system can also be tuned so alerts are less intrusive, which makes the safety tech easier to live with day to day.

Should I buy a 2016 Lincoln MKX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its stylish design, strong turbocharged performance, and excellent safety score.

The bottom line: If you want the MKX’s best mix of style, comfort, and safety, the 2016 is a solid year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the softer market and decent inventory to shop patiently for a cleaner, better-equipped example rather than settling for the first one you see.
