Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Lincoln MKX earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious features, smooth ride, spacious interior, and advanced technology. The overview also points to brisk performance and a premium presentation, which makes it appealing if you want a luxury crossover that feels quick and well equipped. At the same time, the model is described as good rather than great, so you should expect some rough edges in refinement and cabin execution.

There are 33.7% good and great deals in the market, which suggests you can still find attractive pricing if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, smooth, and powerful yet economical, with many drivers also appreciating the spacious interior and advanced technology. That combination suggests you can count on it to deliver the kind of everyday comfort and capability shoppers expect from a premium crossover.

The expert driving notes also emphasize strong performance and a responsive powertrain, which supports the impression of a dependable, easy-to-live-with SUV. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the cabin and overall execution may not feel as polished as the price and badge suggest.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lincoln MKX?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because the model is praised for its luxury features and technology, you should also make sure those systems work properly rather than assuming they do. Focus on overall condition, since the market includes a sizable number of listings with accident history.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base MKX is positioned as a stylish luxury crossover, but the cabin is criticized for not feeling like a substantial upgrade in some areas, especially at lower equipment levels. Higher-equipped versions add more premium content, so you should pay close attention to whether the features you want are actually present.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.7-liter V6 is described as responsive, and the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 adds stronger torque and quicker feel. The turbo engine is the better choice if you want the most effortless performance.
• Safety package: The available Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, brake support and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and driver alert monitoring. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is included with the Reserve equipment package.
• Infotainment: You should look for Sync 3 rather than the older MyLincoln Touch system. The newer setup is described as faster, easier to use, and better suited to everyday driving.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 returned 18.5 mpg in testing and is rated at 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Lincoln MKX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lincoln MKX is offered in 1 trim level: MKX.

Here's the short version:

The MKX is best for you if you want the model’s core luxury crossover experience without trying to sort through a long trim ladder. The available content shows that the biggest differences come from option packages and equipment bundles rather than a wide spread of distinct trims, so the key is finding one with the features you care about most. If you want the strongest value, focus on a well-equipped example with the safety and tech features you’ll actually use.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert comes with the Reserve equipment package, while the Driver Assistance Package adds the broader suite of active safety features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Lincoln MKX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 528 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.11% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,372, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Lincoln MKX's resale value?

The current average of $12,372 sits slightly below last year's $13,919.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of further depreciation. The model’s premium features and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but the softer price trend means you should be realistic about future value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Lincoln MKX safe?

The 2016 Lincoln MKX earns five-star ratings in each federal crash assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating. It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety equipment includes MyKey programmable vehicle settings, 911 Assist, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and an available Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, brake support and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and driver alert monitoring. You also get the ability to adjust sensitivity and warnings so the systems work more subtly.

The main caveat is that IIHS testing was incomplete at the time of review, so not every crash category had been finalized.

Should I buy a 2016 Lincoln MKX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 MKX stands out as a stylish, well-equipped luxury crossover with strong performance and a premium presentation, but it still needs more refinement to fully compete.

The bottom line: You should buy the 2016 if you want a luxury crossover with strong features, good performance, and a lower used price than it carried a year ago. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for the best-condition example with the right safety and tech equipment, since the market includes a meaningful number of accident-history listings.

How does the 2016 Lincoln MKX compare to the 2016 Ford Edge?

Our experts score the 2016 Lincoln MKX 6.7/10 and the 2016 Ford Edge 8.5/10.

The MKX brings the more upscale presentation and stronger luxury appeal, while the Edge comes across as the better overall value and the more convincing package. The MKX also has the higher average used price and fewer listings, so you may pay more for the Lincoln’s premium badge and styling. If you want the more affordable choice with broader inventory, the Edge is the easier recommendation.
