How much does the 2016 Lexus RX cost?

There are 1,518 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Lexus RX earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, luxury features, and smooth ride, and they also point to reliability as a major strength. The RX’s loaded interior and easygoing daily-driver character come through clearly in owner feedback, while the overview frames it as a comfort-first luxury SUV with broad appeal.

The main trade-offs are its sluggish performance and polarizing design. That makes it a better fit if you value a relaxed, upscale driving experience over sharp acceleration or sporty handling.

With 37.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights reliability, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with several drivers also describing the RX as dependable and easy to live with over the long term. The expert test-drive notes reinforce that impression by describing the RX as a bargain that promises to be more reliable than many rivals.

The ownership risk to watch is that some used examples may have accumulated wear or transmission concerns, so a careful inspection matters if you want the RX to stay a low-stress long-term buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lexus RX?

At 53.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and wear match the mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX 350 comes with a strong comfort-first setup, while the F Sport model adds larger 20-inch wheels and a firmer adaptive suspension. If you’re shopping the lower trim, make sure the features you want aren’t missing.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower comes standard, paired with an 8-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is optional, and the hybrid RX 450h uses a different setup with two electric motors and a CVT.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System + includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available separately, and rear-side airbags are standard.
• Infotainment: The RX includes navigation, voice input, live traffic and weather, Bluetooth streaming, HD Radio, and two USB ports. A 15-speaker Mark Levinson stereo is available, and the system also supports telematics features such as stolen-vehicle alerts and remote unlocking.
• Fuel efficiency: The RX 350 AWD is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, and it takes regular 87-octane gasoline.

Which 2016 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lexus RX is offered in 2 trim levels: RX 350 and RX 450h.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350: This is the core choice if you want the RX’s comfort, quiet ride, and strong value without moving into hybrid pricing. It delivers the standard V6 powertrain and the broadest mainstream appeal.
• RX 450h: Choose this if you want the hybrid setup and the added efficiency-oriented character that comes with it. It suits you best if fuel economy matters more than the standard model’s simpler formula.

The safety package is a worthwhile add-on if you want the full Lexus Safety System + feature set.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Lexus RX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,518 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.16% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,779, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $21,965 sits slightly below last year's $22,223.

That modest decline suggests the RX has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the model’s strong reputation and broad appeal should help it remain easy to move when the time comes.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX safe?

The 2016 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick + rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System + includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and rear-side airbags are standard, which is a notable safety advantage.

One caveat is that the available driver-assist tech can feel less polished at higher speeds, where lane-keeping behavior may be less consistent.

Should I buy a 2016 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings a comfort-first cabin, strong value, and top-tier safety.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,119, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $21,965 average.
• It emphasizes quiet comfort, practicality, and dependable daily driving.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $23,466, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $21,965 average.
• It adds broader F Sport availability and standard Safety System + inclusion.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of comfort, safety, and value, the 2016 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 is worth considering if you want the added equipment and can pay more.

How does the 2016 Lexus RX compare to the 2016 Acura RDX?

Our experts score the 2016 Lexus RX 7.8/10 and the 2016 Acura RDX 7.2/10. The RX is the more polished choice if you want a quieter, more comfort-focused luxury SUV with stronger safety credentials and a richer-feeling interior. The RDX is cheaper on the used market and slightly more efficient on the highway, but the RX brings the stronger overall expert score and a more upscale experience.
