What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sportage?

At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with past damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on suspension, tires, brakes, and signs of uneven wear. Because this model is valued for practicality and everyday use, condition matters a lot more than chasing the lowest sticker price.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

What is the 2016 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $9,367 sits slightly below last year's $9,691.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. If you keep the Sportage clean, documented, and accident-free, you give yourself a better chance of holding demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,637, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,367 average.
• It offers strong turbocharged performance and lasting value.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,931, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,367 average.
• It adds bolder styling, more cargo space, and a more playful driving feel.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2016 if you want a balanced mix of price, satisfaction, and current market availability. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better value play; if you want a newer-feeling alternative with more features and a fresher design, the 2017 is worth the extra spend.
