How much does the 2016 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 3.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,599 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that emphasizes style, comfort, and practicality over outright performance. It earns a 3.83/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating, which lines up with its broad appeal and a few notable compromises.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners commonly praise the smooth ride, comfortable interior, and reliability, and many also like features such as cooled seats and the panoramic roof. The Tucson’s redesigned cabin and useful cargo space make it especially appealing if you want a small crossover that feels more substantial than the old-school alternatives.

Only 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson has a mixed but generally encouraging reliability story for a redesigned model. The overview points to strong ownership protection, and owner feedback highlights reliability, smooth driving manners, and a comfortable cabin.

The expert evaluation also notes that Hyundai’s long-running warranty coverage supports dependability, and it adds that free roadside assistance is available for the first 5 years or 60,000 miles of ownership. At the same time, the 7-speed automated manual transmission is singled out as a potential source of owner complaints, so you should pay close attention to how the transmission behaves in real-world driving.

For a used buyer, that means the biggest long-term risk is not the whole vehicle, but the possibility that the transmission or related drivability issues could affect ownership satisfaction over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of prior paintwork, then make sure the transmission and braking feel consistent on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE is the base trim, while Sport and Limited add more equipment and features. The Limited stands out for its larger 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, Blue Link connected services, and available safety-related upgrades, while the Sport and Limited also get the hands-free power liftgate.
• Powertrain: Every version except the base SE uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed EcoShift dual-clutch automated manual transmission. The engine feels stronger once it’s moving, but turbo lag and low-speed hesitation are important to evaluate on a test drive.
• Safety package: Every 2016 Tucson has a standard reversing camera. Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist, while the Limited and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: Limited models get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and a premium sound system. Blue Link connected services are also included, with remote access and safety-related functions available through subscription-based services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Tucson is rated at 24 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined, and the test average came in at 24.7 mpg.

Which 2016 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, Eco, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Tucson. It gets the standard equipment and the reversing camera, but it misses out on the turbocharged engine used by the other trims and the extra convenience and safety content that comes with the higher grades.
• Eco: This trim gives you a step up from the base model while staying focused on value and everyday use. It’s a good choice if you want more of the Tucson’s core strengths without jumping all the way to the more feature-rich upper trims.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more desirable equipment, including the hands-free power liftgate and blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. It’s the sweet spot if you want a better-equipped Tucson without paying for the top trim.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale Tucson experience, including the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, dual-zone climate control, and Blue Link connected services. It also unlocks the available automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning through the Ultimate Package.

The Sport and Limited trims are the ones that add the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,599 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,219, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $11,255 sits slightly below last year's $11,664.

That tells you the Tucson has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you’re buying now. For a future seller, it suggests you should expect a more value-driven resale environment rather than a strong appreciation story.

The current pricing also implies that well-kept examples may still hold appeal because the model’s redesign, safety reputation, and feature content remain attractive to shoppers. If you own one, condition and trim level will matter a lot when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and earns Good ratings in every crash-test assessment, plus a Superior rating for front crash prevention.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2016 Tucson comes with a standard reversing camera, and Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The Limited trim and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning.

One important caveat is that the strongest active-safety content is not standard across the lineup, so you’ll want to verify exactly which trim and package a used example has before you buy.

Should I buy a 2016 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.51% compared with last year.
• The redesign brings standout styling, a more comfortable interior, and strong safety credentials, but the powertrain is the main compromise.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Tucson’s styling, comfort, and safety strengths, the 2016 is the right year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2016 is the better pick when you want the newer look and the broader feature set.
