Used 2016 GMC Canyon for Sale nearColorado Springs, CO

How much does the 2016 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 3.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 592 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and conditions.

Is the 2016 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2016 GMC Canyon earns a 4.21/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners most often praise its comfortable ride, good looks, and the balance of power and economy. That lines up with the Canyon’s role as a midsize truck for you if you want something smaller than a full-size pickup but still want domestic-truck capability. The market also shows 31.8% of listings as good or great deals, which adds some shopping appeal.

Is the 2016 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.21/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that many people found comfortable and capable, with a balance of power and economy that helped it feel useful in everyday driving. At the same time, the same feedback also mentions unexpected mechanical issues, so you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important on a used example.

The expert review also describes the Canyon as strong and robust, which supports the sense that it can handle regular truck duty well. GMC also reduced the powertrain warranty and free service visits for this model year, so long-term ownership risk is more about how well the specific truck was maintained than about the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Canyon?

At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Pay close attention to body condition, signs of prior repair, and any evidence of mechanical issues, since owner feedback includes complaints about unexpected problems and pricing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Canyon is offered in SL, Canyon, SLE, and SLT trim. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, while higher trims add more comfort and technology, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want a better daily-driver experience.
• Powertrain: Most Canyons use a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is available, and the truck is described as responsive, though it needs revs to reach peak power.
• Safety package: An optional forward-collision warning system and an available lane-departure warning system are mentioned, along with OnStar automatic crash response if the airbags deploy. Blind-spot information and rear cross-traffic alert are not offered.
• Infotainment: Apple CarPlay is available through the IntelliLink touchscreen system, which has large virtual buttons, text messaging support, and Wi-Fi access through OnStar subscription services. The setup is designed to be easy to use, with physical knobs and buttons handling many functions.
• Fuel efficiency: The truck is rated at 20 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 20.6 mpg. The review also notes that a tonneau cover can help highway mileage.

Which 2016 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2016 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: SL, Canyon, SLE, and SLT.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the simplest way into the Canyon lineup, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the truck and do not need many extras.
• Canyon: This trim sits above the base model and is the one to target if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and value without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SLE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it should give you a better blend of features and everyday usability without the premium pricing of the top trim.
• SLT: Choose this if you want the most upscale feel in the lineup and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety package is optional, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, make sure the specific truck you’re considering has them.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Canyon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 592 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $18,337 sits slightly below last year's $19,021.

That softer pricing suggests the Canyon has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For you, that means the biggest resale advantage will come from choosing a clean, well-kept truck rather than stretching for a higher-priced example with questionable history.

Because the market still shows meaningful demand and a decent share of good deals, a well-maintained Canyon should remain reasonably easy to move later. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction tend to hold buyer interest better, and this model year fits that pattern.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.21/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2016 GMC Canyon earns a Good rating from IIHS in moderate overlap frontal crash testing, and it earns a three-star rollover resistance rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The Canyon includes OnStar automatic crash response, which can alert authorities if the airbags deploy, and it requires an active subscription to work. An optional forward-collision warning system and an available lane-departure warning system are also mentioned, but blind-spot information and rear cross-traffic alert are not offered.

One caveat to keep in mind is that crash testing is incomplete for this model year, so you should not assume every body style has the same level of published test coverage.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.21/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 adds Apple CarPlay to the available IntelliLink system.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $20,141, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,337 average.
• It is described as the best among midsize pickup trucks at towing, hauling, and just about everything else.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is available. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and want the strongest capability story, the 2017 is the better upgrade path.
