2016 GMC Canyon Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Expert review
For 2016, GMC makes a few changes to the Canyon that might have you scrambling to find a leftover 2015 on your local dealer’s lot.
Not everyone needs a full-size truck, and until recently, only Nissan and Toyota offered alternatives. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the re-launched Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are hot sellers in what was a stale midsize truck segment. Until Ford and Ram join the party, General Motors offers the only “domestic” alternative.

What owners say
"Overall, owners have mixed feelings about the 2016 GMC Canyon. Many appreciated its comfortable ride, good looks, and features, but there were complaints regarding condition and pricing. Specific likes included the truck's balance of power and economy, while dislikes often centered on unexpected mechanical issues and pricing compared to other options."
Truck was totaled by another driver hitting me and every airbag deployed all around and saved my life
July 3, 2025loaded, smooth ride, good looks, quiet and decent fuel mileage
December 22, 2020Has all the features focused on safety and economy. This truck or one like it is similar making it a good purchase for me

January 26, 2023Good payload, comfortable ride, love the seats, lots of space inside
August 5, 2021I have nor driven much but it handles great is very comfortable and is very nice looking. It has a lot of options and was priced fairly.
December 28, 2020The truck was not as advertised or told. Very poor condition, dents, scratches, one seat torn the other cig burned holes. The tires were about bald, etc, etc.
February 10, 2020From research and comments seems rarely do the diesel version disappoint as great Torque for towing and gas engine known for reliability ie like small block 327
May 26, 2023This specific Canyon had some check engine, AC, and electrical issues. But looking past that, this model/trim is packed with great features. I’d like for the rear windshield window to be power controlled, wish it had a sunroof, and would prefer to have the top down view (360 view) when in reverse.
August 27, 2022Very comfortable, great size, diesel needs a little more horsepower. I’m still trying to learn all of the features that come with this SLT Duramax model.
June 5, 2022For a base Canyon it has all the features I need. We will see the value in a few years, if it was worth buying. Back up camera is quite small. Tilt steering wheel does not have enough adjustment to get in and out of easy. I have only had it for a few days, but has good power and should get good mileage for a six cylinder, and I like the looks of it.
