How much does the 2016 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 4.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,771 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Mustang earns a 4.85/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fun and smooth ride, performance, handling, and stylish design. The overview also points to its appeal as a classic-looking performance car with updated tech and a broader mix of appearance and performance packages.

With that mix of strong owner satisfaction and broad enthusiast appeal, it fits you well if you want a sporty coupe or convertible that still feels usable day to day. 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a car that feels fun, smooth, and satisfying to live with, and it also highlights value compared with similar cars. That kind of feedback usually lines up with a model that owners feel good about keeping.

The expert review also describes the Mustang as a capable, confidence-inspiring car that handles its weight with poise and delivers strong performance across the lineup. It also notes that the Mustang remains one of the better deals in its class, which supports the case for dependable ownership value.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s basic appeal and more about how hard it was driven and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and trim match the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car comes with 17-inch alloys, automatic xenon headlights, LED taillights, keyless entry and ignition, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and MyKey. Higher trims add features like power front seats, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and Sync 3.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a V6, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, and a V8. The V6 is rated at 300 hp and 280 lb-ft, the EcoBoost at 310 hp and 320 lb-ft, and the V8 at 435 hp and 400 lb-ft.
• Safety package: The Mustang includes standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is available with an 8-inch touchscreen, and the upgraded system is described as quicker and more capable than the previous setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 17 mpg city/28 highway/21 combined with the manual and 22 combined with the automatic. The EcoBoost is rated at 22/31/26 with the manual or 21/32/25 with the automatic. The V8 is rated at 15/25/19.

Which 2016 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Mustang is offered in 5 trim levels: V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• V6: This is the value play if you want the Mustang look and a strong standard feature set without stretching the budget. It already brings the core Mustang experience and a surprising amount of equipment for the money.
• EcoBoost: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the turbo four-cylinder’s stronger efficiency and extra punch while keeping the price in check.
• EcoBoost Premium: Choose this if you want the most complete small-engine Mustang, since it adds Sync 3, leather, heated and ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and other comfort upgrades.
• GT: This is the trim for you if V8 power is the priority. It trades some premium features for the bigger engine, bigger brakes, and launch-control-related hardware.
• GT Premium: This is the most rounded choice if you want V8 performance and the nicer cabin equipment that comes with the Premium models.

The safety package can be expanded on Premium trims with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,771 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,390, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $19,063 sits slightly below last year's $19,954.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work against you if you buy at the wrong price. If you plan to sell later, you’ll want to focus on condition, mileage, and originality because those factors matter more when a model is already trending downward.

The good news is that the Mustang still has strong enthusiast appeal, and that helps support demand. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than modified or rough-condition cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2016 Ford Mustang earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags are part of the safety story here. Premium models can add adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning, while all Mustangs can add optional front and rear parking sensors.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 adds fresh appeal through updated tech, returning styling touches, and new package availability.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $19,833, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $19,063 average.
• It was a redesigned anniversary-year Mustang with a big step forward in dynamics and technology.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the newer-feeling package, updated tech, and better current pricing. If you’re shopping strictly on price and find a well-kept 2015 with the right equipment, that can still be a smart alternative, but the 2016 is the cleaner default choice for most used buyers.
