How much does the 2016 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 6.10% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,056 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Escape earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owner feedback consistently points to zippy performance, stylish design, and plenty of interior space. You also get a compact crossover that handles well and offers strong features for its age, which fits the Escape’s role as an everyday-use SUV that still aims to be enjoyable to drive.

Market availability is decent too, with 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with owners praising the Escape’s zippy performance and noting that it offers great features for its age. The expert evaluation adds that reliability scores quite high, which supports the idea that this is a vehicle you can count on over time.

Ford also highlights the Escape’s practical ownership appeal with a 0% APR deal and cash-back support in the market context, which can make the purchase easier to justify. Even so, used buyers should still watch for age-related wear and verify maintenance history carefully, since long-term ownership risk is never zero.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Escape?

At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim example with more equipment. Focus on condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim includes a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the SE adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights, fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The Titanium trim adds keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate with foot sensor, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, and ambient interior lighting.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. SE and Titanium trims use a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo four with 178 hp and 184 lb-ft, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost brings 240 hp and 270 lb-ft for the strongest acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, MyKey parental controls, antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, and a full suite of airbags. A Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is the major cabin update, and the system uses a 7-inch touchscreen. The setup did not launch with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, though an update was planned to add those apps later.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.6-liter engine is rated at 23/32 mpg with FWD and 22/29 with AWD, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost returns 22/30 mpg with FWD and 21/28 with AWD. The base 2.5-liter engine is rated at 22/31 mpg.

Which 2016 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value entry point if you want the Escape’s core strengths at the lowest cost. You still get useful standard equipment like a rear-view camera and blind-spot monitoring, but the 2.5-liter engine is the least powerful choice.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a stronger 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine along with 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights, fog lights, and an 8-way power driver’s seat.
• Titanium: Choose this if you want the most upscale Escape experience, with keyless entry and ignition, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, a power liftgate, and more available comfort and technology features.

The safety package is strongest when you add the Technology Package, which brings HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,056 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,841, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $8,880 sits slightly below last year's $9,457.

That price movement suggests the Escape has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less ideal if you’re planning to sell soon. A lower current average can make it easier to attract shoppers, but it also means you may need to price competitively when it’s time to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape safe?

The 2016 Ford Escape earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash tests and five-star ratings in side tests. It also earns Good ratings in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof-strength IIHS tests, but it received a Poor result in the small-overlap frontal-offset test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full suite of airbags, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls. A Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist.

That Poor small-overlap result is the main caveat to keep in mind, so if safety is a top priority, you should pay close attention to crash history and the exact equipment on the listing you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the Sync 3 infotainment update and a strong mix of performance, comfort, and technology.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,106, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,880 average.
• It emphasizes a stylish, refined, and family-friendly driving experience.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,181, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,880 average.
• It adds a refresh with more functional cabin updates and newer technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and modernized tech, the 2016 is the strongest middle ground. If your priority is saving money, the 2015 is the cheaper path; if you want more updates and can spend more, the 2017 is the upgrade to compare.
