How much does the 2016 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 7.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,069 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Escape earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its zippy performance, stylish design, and plenty of interior space. The Escape also stands out for handling well and offering strong features for its age, which fits a compact crossover that aims to balance everyday comfort with a more engaging drive.

With its broad appeal as a well-rounded small SUV, it makes sense for you if you want a compact crossover that feels more polished than purely practical. 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for features, performance, and overall usefulness. The expert review also describes the Escape as a vehicle that has improved over time, and the cost-effectiveness discussion notes that reliability scores quite high.

Ford also mentions a 0% APR deal and cash-back support in the market context, which can make ownership easier to justify if you find the right example. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that early issues and mixed reputation can still affect confidence, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Escape?

At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and trim match the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim includes a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the SE adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights, fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The Titanium adds keyless entry and ignition, an 8-way power front passenger seat, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, a power liftgate with foot sensor, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and ambient interior lighting. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, so you should compare it carefully against the better-equipped SE and Titanium.
• Powertrain: The S trim uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. SE and Titanium trims use a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo four with 178 hp and 184 lb-ft, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost adds 240 hp and 270 lb-ft for much stronger acceleration. Fuel economy is listed at 22 mpg city/31 highway for the 2.5-liter, 23/32 for the 1.6-liter with FWD, 22/29 with AWD, 22/30 for the 2.0-liter with FWD, and 21/28 with AWD.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls. The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, but you should note that it is not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 is the major tech update, and the system uses a 7-inch touchscreen. The Escape did not launch with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, though an update later in the year was expected to add those apps.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 22 mpg city/31 highway, the 1.6-liter returns 23/32 with FWD and 22/29 with AWD, and the 2.0-liter returns 22/30 with FWD and 21/28 with AWD.

Which 2016 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still brings useful standard equipment like a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Escape, but you should expect fewer comfort and convenience features than the higher trims.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights, fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio while moving to the stronger 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the trim to focus on.
• Titanium: This is the most upscale version, with keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate, a premium Sony audio system, and more comfort features. It suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay more for them.

The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, but you should decide whether those extras are worth the cost for your needs.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Escape?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,069 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,943, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $8,943 sits slightly below last year's $9,660.

That decline suggests the Escape has been under some pricing pressure, which can be good news if you are buying but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, it means you should expect the market to reward clean condition, strong maintenance records, and desirable equipment more than just age alone.

The good news is that the model’s strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually list it. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape safe?

The 2016 Ford Escape earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in overall front tests and five-star ratings in overall side tests. It also received a Good rating in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, roof-strength, and whiplash protection tests, but a Poor rating in the small-overlap frontal-offset test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and a full suite of airbags. The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, though those features are not standard across the lineup.

The main caveat is the Poor small-overlap result, so you should pay close attention to crash history and repair quality when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Sync 3 and stronger tech than earlier versions.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,223, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,943 average.
• It feels more approachable and fuel-conscious.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,319, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,943 average.
• It brings a refresh with better functionality and updated equipment.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and market availability, the 2016 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the cheaper path, while the 2017 makes sense if you want the refresh and are willing to pay more.
