overall

Summary
With 908 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,648, 28.7% of 2016 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Dodge Durango 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.5 / 10.
61.2% of 2016 Durango models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Dodge Durango stands out by offering rear-wheel drive and serious towing capacity in a market dominated by crossovers. That combination gives it a more truck-like character than many family-oriented rivals, and it helps explain why it remains one of the stronger choices for buyers who want utility with a bit more attitude.
For 2016, Dodge added several updates aimed at sharpening the Durango’s appeal. Every trim gets fresh wheels, four additional exterior color options, and a Sport driving mode that quickens steering and throttle response while holding gears longer. The R/T trim also gains new 20-inch wheels, ventilated and heated Nappa leather seats, a heated power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an 8-way power passenger seat, auto wipers, HID headlights, and navigation with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Anodized Platinum and Brass Monkey appearance packages are also available for the Citadel and Limited trims, and a standard stop/start feature helps improve the efficiency of the V6.
At the same time, the Durango’s appeal is more about character and capability than outright efficiency. The added sport mode and appearance changes give it a more distinctive personality, but the core draw is still its uncommon blend of RWD and towing strength in a three-row package.

The features are GREAT !!! I am still trying to learn them all but I am having a hard time finding the power folding exterior windows. It should also have power folding rear seating. Great vehicle, the view from the driver seat is great if you are a short person.

| Year-Round Low | $13,481 |
| Year-Round High | $14,462 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,150 |

Prices have softened 3.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 898 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2016 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 6.5/10 expert rating point to a model that delivers strong utility with a distinctive character. The Durango stands out for its rear-wheel-drive layout and serious towing capacity, which gives it a more truck-like feel than many family crossovers. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.
That combination makes sense if you want a three-row SUV with more attitude and capability than the usual commuter-focused alternative. 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Durango’s appeal is built around utility, towing strength, and a rugged personality, and the expert evaluation reinforces that it can handle those jobs well. The V6 is described as strong enough for the class when you stay within its limits, while the V8 brings much more effortless performance for heavier hauling. The standard stop/start system also helps improve efficiency on the V6.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Durango’s weight and capability can mean more wear on brakes, tires, and suspension parts over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Durango?
At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the trim you’re considering is complete and functioning as expected. Because some desirable safety and convenience features were optional on lower trims, it’s worth confirming exactly what the vehicle has before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SXT includes useful standard equipment like 18-inch alloys, heated mirrors, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, load-leveling rear suspension, cruise control, 3-row climate controls, fog lamps, and a 5-inch touchscreen. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, and the Limited is called out as the best compromise for flair and features.
- Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 is paired with an 8-speed automatic and is the efficiency-focused choice, while the 5.7-liter V8 in the R/T is the stronger towing and acceleration option.
- Safety package: The Safety/Security & Convenience Group adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, auto HID headlights and wipers, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a cargo cover with net. On this model, that package is not available for the SXT, and the Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning and avoidance on the Citadel and R/T.
- Infotainment: The available Uconnect 8.4 system brings an 8.4-inch touchscreen, voice controls, satellite radio, and emergency telematics. The tech suite does not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while the V8 is rated at 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.
Which 2016 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2016 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, Limited, Citadel, R/T, and Rallye.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, but it still brings a respectable amount of equipment, including 18-inch alloys, heated mirrors, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, a 5-inch touchscreen, and three-row climate controls. It makes sense if you want the Durango’s core utility at the lowest starting point.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim. It builds on the SXT with remote ignition, auto-dimming power-folding mirrors, leather, a power passenger seat, second-row heat, LED running lights, driver memory settings, and more available tech and convenience features.
- Citadel: This trim leans into comfort and upscale features, adding more leather, upgraded brakes, 20-inch wheels, front-seat ventilation, an 8-way power passenger seat, a 9-speaker stereo, and standard sunroof availability.
- R/T: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the 5.7-liter V8, sport suspension, unique body-color trim, Nappa leather, performance steering tuning, and the Beats audio system. It suits you best if towing strength and stronger acceleration matter most.
- Rallye: This package adds 5 extra horsepower, black 20-inch wheels, body-color trim, and a roof-rail delete. It is the pick if you want a more aggressive look without moving all the way to the V8.
The Safety/Security & Convenience Group is not available for the SXT, so if safety tech matters to you, look closely at higher trims or equipped examples.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 898 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.51% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,481, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $13,653 sits slightly below last year's $14,150.
That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move a Durango quickly. The model’s strong utility, towing ability, and distinctive character can help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples. Condition and equipment will matter a lot when you eventually resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Dodge Durango safe?
The Durango earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side impacts, and independent evaluations achieved top ratings in all tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety suite includes stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and a full set of airbags. The available Safety/Security & Convenience Group adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, auto HID headlights and wipers, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a cargo cover with net. One caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are kept off lower trims and require packages even on higher versions.
Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Expert highlight: the 2016 adds fresh wheels, new colors, and a Sport driving mode that sharpens response.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $14,845, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,653 average.
- It adds a more spacious, family-focused cabin with a rugged character and strong utility.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s broader family-focused appeal, the 2017 is the alternative to compare.
