Used 2016 Dodge Durango for Sale nearSarasota, FL

How much does the 2016 Dodge Durango cost?

Prices have softened 4.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 950 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.5/10. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

The Durango’s appeal is its rear-wheel-drive layout and serious towing capacity in a market full of crossovers, which gives it a more truck-like feel than many family rivals. For you, that means it makes the most sense if you want utility without giving up a sportier attitude. 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Dodge Durango reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Durango’s standard V6, stop/start feature, and available towing-focused hardware point to a vehicle built for real-world utility, while the expert notes also emphasize its strong towing ability and broad feature set. The performance writeup says the V6 is good for 19 mpg city and 26 highway, and the cost-effectiveness notes highlight that the Durango can tow more than most three-row crossovers. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Durango’s heavier weight can mean more wear on tires, brakes, and suspension parts over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Durango?

At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or signs of heavy use. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the towing equipment has been used hard. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment works as advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SXT includes 18-inch alloys, heated mirrors, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Limited adds remote ignition, auto-dimming power-folding mirrors, leather, and more comfort features. The Citadel and R/T bring more upscale equipment, but the base trim misses some of the nicer convenience and safety content that appears higher up the range.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the R/T’s 5.7-liter V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft. The V6 is the efficiency play, and the V8 is the choice if you want stronger acceleration and maximum towing strength.
• Safety package: The Safety/Security & Convenience Group adds blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, auto HID headlights and wipers, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a cargo cover with net. The Citadel and R/T can also add the Technology Group for adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning and avoidance, but those features are not standard on the lower trims.
• Infotainment: The Uconnect 8.4 system uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and it adds voice controls, satellite radio, and emergency telematics. It does not get Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and that’s worth knowing if smartphone integration matters to you.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 highway, while the V8 is rated at 14 mpg city and 22 highway.

Which 2016 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, Limited, Citadel, R/T, and Police.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the value starting point, with 18-inch alloys, heated mirrors, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a 5-inch touchscreen. It gives you the Durango’s core personality without pushing the price too far.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds remote ignition, auto-dimming power-folding mirrors, leather, second-row heat, driver memory settings, and more available tech and convenience upgrades. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• Citadel: This trim leans upscale with more leather, chrome exterior trim, upgraded brakes, 20-inch wheels, front-seat ventilation, and a 9-speaker stereo. It suits you if you want a more premium-feeling Durango without jumping to the V8-focused R/T.
• R/T: This is the performance and towing choice, with the 5.7-liter V8, sport suspension, performance steering tuning, Nappa leather, and the Beats stereo. Choose it if you want the strongest powertrain and the most assertive driving character.
• Police: This trim is aimed at fleet use rather than typical retail shopping, so it’s usually not the right pick for most used buyers.

The Safety/Security & Convenience Group is especially worth seeking out on lower trims because it adds important driver-assistance features that aren’t standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Durango?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 950 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,406, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $13,409 sits slightly below last year's $14,105.

That price movement suggests the Durango has softened enough to create a better entry point for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about pricing. If you buy well now, you’re starting from a lower cost basis than a year ago, which can help cushion depreciation. Stronger trims and well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because shoppers still value the Durango’s towing ability and distinctive character.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Durango safe?

The Durango earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango includes 4-wheel antilock discs, stability control, traction control, trailer sway control, and a full suite of airbags including front side, driver knee, and full-length curtain airbags. The expert safety writeup also notes that independent evaluations achieved top ratings in all tests. A key caveat is that several useful driver-assistance features are not standard on lower trims and must be added through packages.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a sportier attitude, rear-wheel drive, and stronger towing focus than many crossover rivals.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $14,752, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,409 average.
• It adds a more polished, family-friendly interior with broader comfort and entertainment appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year experience, the 2017 is the better secondary path for shoppers who want a more refined-feeling interior.
