CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,250 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,204.00, 28.3% of 2016 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
54.8% of 2016 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a completely redesigned version of a classic American pony car, and it brings a more refined feel than the model it replaced. Chevy also gave it updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech, while the car rides on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS. That combination helps make the Camaro feel like a fresh take on a familiar name rather than a simple update.
For buyers, the appeal is easy to understand: the Camaro remains a car with strong emotional pull, but this version aims to pair that heritage with more modern polish. Owners also tend to praise its sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities. At the same time, visibility can be a significant issue, especially for taller drivers, and the cabin may feel cramped for those over six feet tall.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

| Year-Round High | $23,675.45 |

| Change vs. Last Year | −0.53% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro earns a 4.38/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.
Owners repeatedly praise the sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities. That lines up with the car’s role as a redesigned pony car that aims to blend heritage with more modern polish. For you, that means the Camaro makes the most sense if you want style and performance first, with enough refinement to feel more contemporary than the model it replaced.
With 25.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable enough to inspire confidence, with praise centered on its strong performance and overall satisfaction.
The expert evaluation reinforces that this is a refined, modernized Camaro rather than a rough-edged throwback, and the cost-effectiveness notes suggest it can be a sensible compromise if you want fun without jumping straight to the priciest V8 versions. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car has been cared for properly, especially if it has seen hard use or has a complicated option history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or optioned heavily. Focus on overall condition, because the Camaro’s appeal depends a lot on how well it has been maintained and whether the cabin, electronics, and driving feel still match the car’s sporty promise.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2LT automatic 4-cylinder adds push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen. That makes it the most compelling value if you want the best mix of comfort and equipment.
- Powertrain: The base engine is a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the available 3.6-liter V6 makes 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. The SS uses a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque, and power goes to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual or available 8-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a backup camera. The Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, and the system supports CarPlay. A head-up display is also available, showing speed, radio info, engine RPM, and navigation prompts.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined. The V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined. The V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 3 trim levels: 2LT, SS, and 2LT V6.
Here's the short version:
- 2LT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Camaro’s modern cabin and daily comfort without jumping to V8 pricing. It brings the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a Bose premium stereo, and it can be paired with the V6 for a strong balance of performance and livability.
- SS: Choose this if you want the full muscle-car experience and the 6.2-liter LT1 V8. It is the clear performance pick, but it makes the most sense if you care more about straight-line power than value or efficiency.
The safety package adds useful features like rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts, but those were part of the Convenience and Lighting package rather than standard equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 25.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,267 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,021.15, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,263 sits slightly below last year's $23,387.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a reasonable shot at preserving value better than a more volatile model. The Camaro’s broad appeal and strong enthusiast following help support demand, especially for cleaner examples with desirable equipment.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro comes with safety features such as StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. As part of the Convenience and Lighting package, features like rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were all featured on our test car.
The biggest caveat is visibility: the Camaro’s styling creates very thick rear pillars and poor sight lines, which can make everyday driving more challenging than in many rivals. For you, that means the safety equipment helps, but it does not fully erase the visibility drawback.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 25.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It’s a redesigned Camaro with a more refined feel, updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,322, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,263 average.
- It feels more intense and focused, with a more dramatic personality and a tighter cabin.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and a more modern take on the Camaro formula, the 2016 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer example and a more intense character, the 2017 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2016 gives you the stronger balance of cost, equipment, and market availability.
