CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,293 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,223, 28.8% of 2016 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
53.8% of 2016 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out because it is a completely redesigned car that brings updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech. It also rides on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS, which gives it a new level of refinement. For buyers drawn to the Camaro’s place in American car culture, that combination of fresh design and modernized hardware makes this version feel like a new chapter rather than a simple update.
At the same time, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is not presented as trying to live up to any legacy, which reinforces how distinct this redesign is. The tradeoff is that the car’s usability still matters, and the source notes that the previous model had serious setbacks that hurt daily driving. Owner feedback echoes some of that practicality concern, with praise for the sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling, but complaints that visibility can be a significant issue and that the cabin may feel cramped for taller drivers.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

| Year-Round High | $23,660 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,146 |

There are 1,305 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from experts points to a Camaro that lands well with shoppers who want style and driving enjoyment. The overview frames this model year as a completely redesigned car with updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech, so you’re looking at a more modern take on the Camaro formula.
Owner feedback repeatedly praises the sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling. That makes it a strong fit if you want a performance coupe that feels fresh and refined rather than purely nostalgic.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, with praise centered on its smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling.
The expert drive notes reinforce that sense of confidence by describing the Camaro as a fun, effective compromise between performance, efficiency, and practicality. The cost-effectiveness commentary also highlights the 2LT V6 as a balanced choice for daily creature comforts without giving up the Camaro’s character.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about whether the car’s visibility and cabin compromises will work for your daily routine.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, alignment, and any signs of prior repair work. Because visibility is a known weakness, it’s also smart to evaluate whether the car’s condition and equipment match how you plan to use it every day.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2LT adds push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, while the test car also showed how the Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. If you want the best value, the 2LT stands out as the most balanced setup.
- Powertrain: The lineup starts with a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder making 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, then moves to a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, while the SS uses a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with a 6-speed manual or available 8-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a backup camera. The Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, and the system supports CarPlay. The source does not mention wireless phone integration or over-the-air updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined. The V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined. The V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 3 trim levels: 2LT, SS, and 2LT V6.
Here's the short version:
- 2LT: This is the best-value choice if you want the Camaro’s modern cabin and daily comfort features without jumping to V8 pricing. It brings the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a premium audio setup.
- SS: Choose this if you want the full muscle-car experience. It pairs the 6.2-liter V8 with the strongest performance in the lineup and adds Track mode, making it the clear pick for buyers who care most about straight-line power and track-oriented character.
- 2LT V6: This is the smart middle ground if you want stronger performance than the turbo four and better everyday balance than the SS. The source describes it as a fun, effective compromise between performance, efficiency, and practicality.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were part of the Convenience and Lighting package, not standard equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,305 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,031, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,227 sits slightly above last year's $23,146.
That small increase suggests the Camaro’s pricing has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you’re thinking about future resale. A steady market can make it easier to estimate what your car may be worth later, especially if you buy at a sensible price and keep mileage and condition in check.
The fact that the average price has held close to last year’s level also points to consistent buyer interest. For a performance coupe with strong owner satisfaction, that kind of stability can support resale confidence over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
The Camaro earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the safety writeup also notes that it comes with a standard backup camera, StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, and advanced dual-stage airbags.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The available Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts, which help offset some of the car’s visibility challenges. Even so, the expert safety commentary is clear that outward visibility is one of the Camaro’s biggest weaknesses, so you should pay close attention to sight lines during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 is a completely redesigned Camaro with a more refined platform, updated interior, and the latest infotainment tech.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,101, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,227 average.
- It leans harder into the Camaro’s performance-first personality and is described as less practical for extra passengers.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and the more modern redesign, the 2016 is the stronger starting point. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and can live with the Camaro’s tighter practicality, the 2017 is the better fit for buyers who prioritize style and excitement over everyday usability.
