CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,259 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,087.00, 28.0% of 2016 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
54.6% of 2016 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a completely redesigned version of a classic American pony car, and it brings a more refined feel than the model it replaced. Chevy also gave it updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech, while the car rides on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS. That combination helps make the Camaro feel like a fresh take on a familiar name rather than a simple update.
For buyers, the appeal is easy to understand: the Camaro remains a car with strong emotional pull, but this version aims to pair that heritage with more modern polish. Owners also tend to praise its sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities. At the same time, visibility can be a significant issue, especially for taller drivers, and the cabin may feel cramped for those over six feet tall.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro earns a 4.38/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities. The overview also points to a car that blends strong emotional appeal with more modern polish, which fits buyers who want a performance coupe with a refined feel rather than a purely old-school muscle car. That said, visibility and cabin space are recurring tradeoffs, so it makes the most sense if you value style and driving character over everyday spaciousness. The market also shows 28.7% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to owners, with praise centered on its strong performance, smooth ride, and advanced technology.
The expert drive notes reinforce that impression by describing the Camaro as a refined, modern take on a familiar name, with a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS. The cost-effectiveness notes also highlight a 2LT V6 setup as a fun, effective compromise between performance, efficiency, and practicality.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about whether the car has been maintained carefully and fits your daily-driving needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or optioned heavily. Pay close attention to visibility-related wear points, interior condition, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim and package claims in the listing. Because this model can be bought in several configurations, it’s worth confirming that the features you expect are actually present.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup emphasizes style and modern cabin design, but the safety content shows that features like rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were part of a package rather than standard equipment.
- Powertrain: The base engine is a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. You can also find a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, while the SS uses a 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque.
- Safety package: The Camaro includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. Rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were included with the Convenience and Lighting package.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses MyLink with an 8-inch touchscreen on the 2LT, and the test vehicle featured CarPlay. The system also supports a head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, and 25 combined. The V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, and 23 combined. The V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, and 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 3 trim levels: 2LT, SS, and the base turbo-four setup.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: It gives you the Camaro’s core style and performance identity, but you’ll miss out on some of the comfort and convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The 2LT is the best value if you want the strongest balance of daily comfort and performance. It adds push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen.
- Premium/top trim: The SS is the performance choice, with the 6.2-liter LT1 V8, stronger straight-line pace, and the most serious muscle-car character in the lineup.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
The safety package note is worth remembering: rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were part of the Convenience and Lighting package, not standard across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,263 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.72% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,025.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,105 sits slightly below last year's $23,510.
That price movement suggests the Camaro has softened a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold buyer interest better than rougher cars or stripped builds.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro comes with safety features such as StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. As part of the Convenience and Lighting package, features like rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were all featured on our test car.
But the Camaro cannot escape a burning truth: its bold styling yields some of the poorest visibility you can get in a modern car. You should treat that as a real-world safety caveat when you test drive one, especially if you spend a lot of time in tight parking lots or dense traffic.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.72% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It brings a completely redesigned body, a more refined feel, and updated infotainment tech.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,227, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,105 average.
- It adds a more dramatic, intensely focused driving character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a fresh redesign. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model and a more intense personality, the 2017 is the secondary path to consider.
