What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

At 52.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork. Focus on condition, equipment operation, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup is light on extras, while the Luxury trim adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels. The Performance trim adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist, while Premium layers on a fully digital, fully customizable instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft, or a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 in the Vsport with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft. The 8-speed automatic and available AWD broaden the car’s appeal, and the V6 AWD setup is described as confident and fun to drive.
• Safety package: The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. The car also offers 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, with some safety tech tied to higher trims.
• Infotainment: CUE uses a touchscreen layout with customizable menus, and it includes Apple CarPlay for iPhone users. The system also supports navigation, phone, climate, and entertainment apps, while the test car adds a customizable, multicolored head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-economy figure is stated in the provided data.

Which 2016 Cadillac CTS trim should I buy?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS is offered in 4 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the CTS experience at the lowest starting point and plan to add only what you need.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels.
• Performance: Choose this if you want the more capability-focused setup, since it adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist.
• Premium: This is the right pick if you want the most complete CTS experience, with the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.

The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 267 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,142, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?

The current average of $13,142 sits slightly below last year's $13,944.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than broad market momentum alone.

Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong equipment should hold up better than average, especially if they present cleanly and have a solid history. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS safe?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights a standard driver-awareness package with blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. It also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, which helps with parking and low-speed maneuvering.

A notable caveat is that some of the more helpful safety and convenience features are tied to higher trims, so you should confirm exactly which systems are fitted on the car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings a more refined, more high-tech version of the CTS with key updates over the prior year.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,433, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,142 average.
• It gets the fundamentals right while feeling carefully executed and distinctly sporty.

The bottom line: If you want the more polished and tech-forward CTS, the 2016 is the better all-around choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the smarter value play, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.
