At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of past collision work, uneven panel gaps, and wear that doesn’t match the mileage. Because this is a luxury SUV with a lot of equipment, you’ll also want to pay close attention to how well the cabin features and mechanical systems are functioning.

What is the 2016 BMW X5's resale value?

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless the market tightens again. If you plan to sell later, condition and maintenance history will matter a lot, especially because buyers in this segment tend to reward clean, well-kept examples. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,387, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,565 average.
• It blends SUV practicality with BMW’s signature driving feel.

The bottom line:
You should start with the 2016 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better value-focused alternative, especially if you find one with a clean history and solid maintenance records.
