How much does the 2016 BMW X1 cost?

Prices have softened 3.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 580 listings available, which suggests you should have enough inventory to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2016 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

The 2016 X1 stands out as a redesigned compact luxury SUV that feels polished behind the wheel, even with its shift to a front-wheel-drive-based platform. It is positioned for you if you want a small luxury SUV with strong driving manners and a more upscale presentation than the previous version.

31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2016 X1 is described as a well-executed redesign with a more refined cabin and a driving character that remains a core strength. Its turbocharged four-cylinder is presented as smooth and responsive once warmed up, and the transmission is described as smart enough that you will not miss paddle shifters in normal use.

The available maintenance perk language points to a more ownership-friendly setup when you choose the right package, but the broader picture still suggests you should budget carefully for options and upkeep. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a lightly equipped example that lacks the convenience and safety features you may expect from a luxury SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW X1?

At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of prior bodywork. Focus on condition, feature operation, and whether the equipment you want was actually included, since many desirable items were optional.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as minimal and tightly constructed, with soft-touch lower dashboard panels and optional stitched brown leather trim that helps the interior feel more upscale. You should pay close attention to whether the example you are considering has the comfort and appearance upgrades you want, because the base setup is comparatively sparse.
• Powertrain: The X1 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive is standard. It is described as quick off the line, smooth once warmed up, and more efficient than the previous six-cylinder setup.
• Safety package: The car includes lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, and auto braking with pedestrian detection, while adaptive cruise control is available. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist are not included.
• Infotainment: The navigation system has clear graphics, single-string voice commands, and handwriting recognition, and the screen can be split to show multiple functions at once. The system also supports telematics such as remote unlocking and stolen-vehicle alert.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel economy is rated at 22 mpg city/32 highway, and the review notes 26 mpg over a 300-mile drive.

Which 2016 BMW X1 trim should I buy?

The 2016 BMW X1 is offered in 1 trim level: xDrive28i.

Here's the short version:

xDrive28i: This is the only trim, so your decision is really about how well-equipped the individual example is. It brings the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, standard all-wheel drive, and the X1’s strongest traits: quick response, balanced handling, and a premium-feeling cabin. If you want the best value, look for one with the useful safety and tech options already installed, since many desirable features were optional.

The safety package includes lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, and auto braking with pedestrian detection, while adaptive cruise control is available and blind-spot monitoring is not.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW X1?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 580 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,466, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $11,761 sits slightly below last year's $12,165.

That decline suggests the market has softened enough to give you a better entry point now than a year ago. If you buy at today's average or below, you may reduce the risk of overpaying relative to recent market history. For a future seller, the current pricing trend implies that resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 BMW X1 safe?

The 2016 BMW X1 earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The X1 includes the usual airbags and safety features, plus brakes that automatically dry in the rain and can compensate for fade. It also offers lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, auto braking with pedestrian detection, and available adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist are not included.

The IIHS Top Safety Pick+ result is a strong sign, but you should still verify which driver-assistance features are present on the specific used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 redesign is a major shift for the model, with a more polished driving feel and a more upscale presentation than the earlier version.

The bottom line: The 2016 X1 is the right pick if you want the redesigned version and value its stronger driving manners, upscale cabin, and solid safety credentials. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can use the softer market and moderate inventory to shop patiently for a well-equipped example with the options you want.
