How much does the 2016 Acura TLX cost?

Prices are up 1.20% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 615 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura TLX earns 5/5 from owners and 6.5/10 from our experts. The expert score reflects a car that aims to balance driving enjoyment with upscale appeal, and Acura’s own positioning frames it as a performance luxury sedan with a clear identity. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

The TLX’s value pitch is reinforced by its bargain positioning against pricier premium sedans, while the cabin materials and comfort help it feel appropriately upscale. At the same time, the car’s promise depends on execution, so the overall appeal is strongest if you want a luxury sedan that leans on value and brand ambition rather than pure flash.

31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The TLX is presented as a car that can deliver comfort, refinement, and a premium-feeling interior, and its performance side is described as capable when the car is specified and driven well. The dependability picture is strongest when you focus on the car’s core mission rather than expecting it to be flawless in every area.

The performance notes point to a car that can feel smooth and confident, but also one that depends on the right setup and driving conditions to shine. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a neglected example may not deliver the same balance of comfort, performance, and refinement that makes the TLX appealing in the first place.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura TLX?

At 51.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important. You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has larger wheels, higher mileage, or signs of hard use. Focus on overall condition, brake feel, cabin wear, and whether the car still feels tight and composed on the road.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 4-cylinder trim starts the lineup, while the V6 and SH-AWD versions add more performance-oriented hardware and a more upscale feel. The base car is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about the richer equipment and stronger driving character described in the test notes.
• Powertrain: The TLX is available with a 4-cylinder or V6 engine, and the V6 SH-AWD setup is the one described as transforming the car’s driving dynamics. The performance notes also point to a 9-speed automatic and a driving character that changes noticeably with mode selection.
• Safety package: The car includes Acura’s driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, and the safety discussion highlights strong federal crash-test results alongside weaker small-overlap and LATCH performance. That means you should pay close attention to how the safety equipment is configured on the specific car you’re considering.
• Infotainment: The TLX does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and it uses a dual-screen setup that can be confusing. The optional Technology Package adds navigation, voice recognition, a 10-speaker premium sound system, and AcuraLink subscription services.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car was rated at 25 mpg, and the test loop returned 22.8 mpg.

Which 2016 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura TLX is offered in 2 trim levels: TLX 2.4 and TLX 3.5 SH-AWD.

Here's the short version:

• TLX 2.4: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the TLX’s upscale cabin and value story without stretching for the pricier V6 setup. It’s the trim most likely to appeal if you care more about the car’s bargain positioning than its strongest performance character.
• TLX 3.5 SH-AWD: This is the best-value trim if you want the TLX to feel like the performance luxury sedan Acura is aiming for. The V6, SH-AWD, and torque-vectoring hardware are the combination that most clearly brings the car’s personality to life.

The safety content also notes that the TLX’s crash-protection performance is mixed, so you should verify the exact equipment and condition of any used example carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura TLX?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 615 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.20% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 51.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,000, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $14,653 sits slightly above last year's $14,479. That modest increase suggests the TLX has held value reasonably well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The year-over-year gain also points to steady demand rather than a sharp swing in either direction.

For a future seller, that kind of movement usually means the market still sees the TLX as a credible used luxury sedan. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you’re more likely to benefit from that steady demand when it’s time to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura TLX safe?

The 2016 Acura TLX earns five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, but it also gets a Marginal rating for small-overlap frontal-impact protection from IIHS. It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The TLX’s driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies are described as sophisticated for the class, but the crash-test picture is mixed because of that Marginal small-overlap result. The safety discussion also notes a Marginal rating for child-seat LATCH ease of use, so you should pay close attention to how well the specific car fits your family needs.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.20% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Acura’s own pitch frames it as a performance luxury sedan with a clear identity.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,407, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,653 average.
• It blends rewarding driving dynamics with modern entertainment and safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market data and are comfortable paying a bit more, the 2016 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2015 is the better value path.

How does the 2016 Acura TLX compare to the 2016 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2016 Acura TLX 6.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Accord 6.8/10. The TLX asks more money up front, but it also brings a more premium identity and a stronger value story in the used market. The Accord is the more affordable new car and delivers better fuel economy, while the TLX leans harder into luxury-brand appeal and a more upscale cabin.

The TLX also has the advantage in average used price being only slightly higher, despite its higher original MSRP. If you want the more premium-feeling sedan, the TLX is the better fit; if you want the simpler value play with stronger efficiency, the Accord makes more sense.
